Upper, River Valley play to 2-2 draw

By every measure, Upper Sandusky and River Valley played an even match, including in the final score of 2-2 in boys soccer action Saturday. The Rams (2-4-1) and Vikings (2-1-2) were even in shots on goal at nine and in corner kicks at three.

Carey’s Reinhart finishes 7th at Grove

COLUMBUS GROVE — Led by Sarah Reinhart’s seventh-place finish in 20:22.26, the Carey girls cross country team finished fourth in the small school division of the Columbus Grove Invitational on Saturday at Clymer Stadium. Columbus Grove topped Woodmore for first, 85-92, with Lincolnview third with 116 points. The Blue Devils scored 148 points.

Wynford girls golf stays unbeaten

Note: These results inadvertently were left out of last week’s paper. BUCYRUS — Wynford moved to 8-0 in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference with a 197-209 victory against Seneca East in girls golf play Thursday at The Golf Club of Bucyrus.

Since 2013, the Upper Sandusky football team had not won its first two games. But a 33-point first half — a half in which the Rams only needed one play to score two separate times — coupled with a shutout on defense ensured the Rams would be off to their best start in five years.

98-yard TD sparks Warriors

BASCOM — Zach Hayman helped Mohawk get a lead. The offensive line and running game helped the Warriors keep it. Hayman had two interceptions and a 98-yard touchdown catch in the first half alone, and then the experienced offensive line went to work as the Warriors racked up 311 rushing yards in a 34-14 victory against Hopewell-Loudon Friday night in Bascom.

Chester, Konkle spark efficient Warriors to victory over Devils

SYCAMORE — It’s a combination that has worked well for the Mohawk volleyball team this season — junior Alexa Konkle as the setter and senior Madi Chester as the outside hitter — and Thursday was no exception. Konkle recorded 33 assists, five digs, two kills, two blocks and two aces, and Chester, the Northern 10 Athletic Conference’s leader in kills, led the Warriors with 15 kills as the Warriors won a three-set match, 25-12, 25-14, 25-19, over Carey on Thursday at Mohawk.
