Royals’ Underwood named N10 player of year

Wynford’s Abby Underwood was named the player of the year on the All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls golf team released recently. Underwood, a senior, led the league in adjusted scoring average at 50.58 strokes per nine holes, finishing more than a stroke per nine holes better than teammate Caity Schiefer, who finished second in average.

Knights top Falcons in BVC match

VAN BUREN — The Riverdale volleyball team kept it close in the second and third sets, but dropped a three-set match to Van Buren 25-9, 25-19, 25-16 on Wednesday at Van Buren High School. Hannah Galkiewicz recorded two aces, Grace Wetherill had three kills and two blocks, Tayler Ashburn finished with one ace, seven kills and two digs, Hannah Vaughan finished with six digs and Tayler Yoder finished with 13 assists and four digs.

GALION — Wynford was ninth and Upper Sandusky 10th in the Division II sectional girls golf tournament Tuesday at Valley View Golf Course. Shelby was the runaway winner with a spectacular 302 on a rainy day when nearly every Northern 10 Athletic Conference team scored higher than they did a week ago for the league tournament.

Royals top Rockets to win 3rd straight

MORRAL — The Wynford volleyball team won for the third time in four days with a 15-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-22 victory Tuesday night at Ridgedale. After the Rockets (5-10, 3-8 N10) ran away with the first set, they had a shot to take a 2-0 lead in the second set, but the Royals (5-12, 3-8 N10) pulled it out and then won two straight afterward for their third straight victory. They beat New London Saturday and Bucyrus on Monday.

Never easy: Mohawk holds off Buckeye in 5

Big win

SYCAMORE — It was not going to be easy to put an end to Buckeye Central’s 58-match Northern 10 Athletic Conference volleyball winning streak, no matter how it seemed early. Mohawk won a convincing first two sets and then had to take a decisive fifth set after Buckeye Central rallied Monday night, but the Warriors were able to pull out a 25-22, 25-15, 21-25, 23-25, 15-5 victory to give the Buckettes their first loss in three years and avenge their only loss this year.

Blue Devils sweep Eagles

NORTH ROBINSON — It was what Carey coach Stacy Bell called a “lights out performance.” Carey swept the Northern 10 Athletic Conference’s third-place team Colonel Crawford, 25-15, 26-24, 25-22, on Monday night in North Robinson.
