First 2 rounds of Match Game in the books

Top seeds Don McLaughlin, Jim Stansbery and Dave Ross, along with Roger Ball, are into the championship bracket semifinals of the Wyandot Match Game bowling invitational at Wyandot Lanes. The first two rounds of the double-elimination tournament were held over the weekend, and mostly went as expected.

Pre-sale tickets available for district games

Pre-sale tickets are available at schools for this week’s district tournament games. Upper Sandusky is selling tickets from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Tuesday and 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in the high school athletic office. No pre-sale tickets will be available after that.

Sectional sweep: Rams not taking title for granted

MONROEVILLE — Upper Sandusky found out the hard way last year not to take sectional championships for granted. Eliminated in their first game last season, the Rams made sure that did not happen again, leading from start to finish in a 71-53 victory against Fostoria in a Division III sectional final game Friday night at Monroeville.

Warriors have no problem winning without Hayman

CAREY — The Mohawk Warriors got an opportunity to see what life would be like without all-time leading scoring Zach Hayman on Friday night. Hayman, who is nursing a knee injury, entered the game second in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference with a 21.1 per game scoring average, but he was not available to his team in the Division IV sectional championship game at Carey.

May, Price reach district semifinals

KANSAS — Carey’s Tanner May and Mohawk’s Morgan Price are a win away from state qualifying after picking up two victories to reach the semifinals of the district tournament in Division III wrestling competition Friday at Lakota.

Royals shoot just 18 percent in loss

WILLARD — Forcing 33 turnovers and grabbing 21 offensive rebounds usually equates to a victory. But not on a night when a team doesn’t convert on those turnovers and shots simply don’t fall. The Royals shot just 18 percent from the field in their 54-33 loss to Sandusky St. Mary in a Division IV district semifinal Thursday at Willard.

Royals’ Stevely signs with Mount Vernon

BUCYRUS — There was only one college that Wynford senior Ryan Stevely visited, and only one college he wanted to attend. On Thursday at Wynford High School, Stevely signed a national letter of intent to run cross country at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, an NAIA university in Mount Vernon.
