Upper’s McDaniel 7th in GMVWA tourney

VANDALIA — Brayzin McDaniel finished in seventh place to lead Upper Sandusky Friday in the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association Holiday Wrestling Tournament at Vandalia Butler. McDaniel was the only Ram to place, finishing 5-2 in the tournament at 145 pounds.

Carey starts fast, beats L-B

FINDLAY — Carey jumped out a 17-point halftime lead, and the was it’s final margin of victory in a 64-47 non-conference win Friday night at Liberty-Benton. The Blue Devils (4-4) led 16-9 after one quarter and 32-15 at halftime.

Barth’s basket gives Mohawk freshman a win

WILLARD — Collin Barth converted a three-point play off of a baseline drive with two seconds left to lift Mohawk’s freshman boys basketball team to a 43-41 victory against Willard on Thursday. Nathan Geary led the Warriors with 14 points, followed by Barth with 13 points.

VANDALIA — Upper Sandusky’s Brayzin McDaniel and Garrett Thomas remain in contention at the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association Holiday Wrestling Tournament on Thursday at Vandalia Butler. McDaniel won his first round match at 138 pounds with a pin but was pinned in the next round.

BUCYRUS — With 5:24 remaining in the third quarter, Wynford sophomore guard Lyndie Williams stole the ball at half court, outraced two Mohawk players and hit a layup in transition, giving the Wynford girls basketball team an 18-point lead.

CAREY — Outside shooting is the perfect compliment to the Carey boys basketball team’s offense, especially with 6-foot-8 center Hayden Stone always a threat to score in the post. And on Saturday against Wynford, the Blue Devils, taking note that the Royals were in a zone defensively, connected on eight 3-pointers, including seven in the first half, in their 74-37 victory over the Royals at Carey High School.

Tigers overwhelm Rams in 2nd half

Runaway late

Upper Sandusky was right there with a chance. But, Seneca East kicked it into another gear when it sensed the Rams closing in. The Tigers used 16 straight points to open the fourth quarter to pull away from Upper Sandusky, taking a 78-49 Northern 10 Athletic Conference victory on Saturday.
