Niederkohr named DC-U player of year a 3rd time

All DCU softball 2019

For the third straight year, Carey’s Hailey Niederkohr has been named the All-Daily Chief-Union softball player of the year. Niederkohr shared the honor last season with Mohawk’s Hannah Jordan but took the title outright this season, as she did as a freshman. Mohawk’s Aubrie Harper and Upper Sandusky’s Alivia Oney also received votes for the honor.

Brett Montgomery, of Harpster, putts Thursday in the Ohio Amateur qualifier at Mohawk Country Club. Montgomery shot an 88 on the soggy course. Britton Hensel, of Kenton, a Tiffin University golfer, won with a 3-under-par 69.

Montgomerys take 1st in HOJGA divisions

Overall winner featured

Brett and Brock Montgomery both came out on top in their divisions in the season-opening Heart of Ohio Junior Golf Association tournament Tuesday at Lincoln Hills Golf Club. Brett Montgomery shot a 72, including an even-par 36 on each of his nine-hole rounds. He tallied six birdies on the day, including twice each on Nos. 5 and 7.

Baseball game set for June 20

The majority of the Crawford/Wyandot County All-Star team participating in District 9 All-Star baseball action is made up of local players at 7 p.m. June 20. Seniors expected to participate include Upper Sandusky’s Jason Holly, Brenyn Marquart and Parker Frombaugh, Carey’s Jordan Dasher and Dylan Grothaus, Mohawk’s Cole Widmer and Tanner Osborn, and Wynford’s Noah Smith.
