There will be a first-time accomplishment and a first event when the Upper Sandusky girls 200 medley relay team of Katie Conley, Abbey Wenger, Kami Swartz and Maya Collins race at the state swim meet Thursday. The Upper Sandusky girls 200 medley relay team is the first girls relay team in the history of Upper Sandusky High School to qualify for the state swim meet.

TIFFIN — A flurry of 3-pointers helped Riverdale snap its three-game losing streak with a quality 62-58 nonconference boys basketball victory Tuesday night at Tiffin Calvert. Down 27-22, Brock Davis hit a 3-pointer before the end of the first half, and then the Falcons (13-8) began the second half with a 13-3 run that was capped by 3-pointers by Davis, Seth McElree and Logan Frey, giving Riverdale a 38-30 lead.

BELLEVUE — Injuries created a weakness for Bellevue against Upper Sandusky’s strength. A lack of guard experience showed early as the Rams built a big early lead and coasted to a 63-44 victory against the Redmen in a nonleague boys basketball game Monday night.

NORTH ROBINSON — For a little more than one quarter, it looked as if the Carey boys basketball team picked up where it left off from its first matchup with Colonel Crawford. The Blue Devils, who connected on eight 3-pointers in their first matchup with the Eagles, opened Tuesday’s contest with four 3-pointers, three of which were in the first half.

Mohawk freshmen to play for N10 title

SYCAMORE — Mohawk rolled to a 59-32 victory against Upper Sandusky to reach the finals of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference freshman boys basketball tournament Monday at Mohawk. Nathan Geary led the Warriors with 19 points, followed by Collin Barth with 12 points and Reese Hannam with 11 points.

The last time the Mohawk boys basketball team won a league championship, coach Paul Dunn was on that team during the 2006-07 season, when the Warriors shared the Midland Athletic League title with Carey and Seneca East. And it had been even longer since the Warriors won a league championship outright, dating back to 1963.

SYCAMORE — Mohawk coach Nate Lofay acknowledged that a lot of people thought this would be a rebuilding year for the Warriors. Not so much. Mohawk tallied three individual champions as well as five runner-up finishes to capture the Northern 10 Athletic Conference wrestling title on Saturday at Mohawk.
