ATTICA — Addystin Lykins was involved in three first-place finishes to help Carey’s girls take second place Saturday in the season-opening Seneca East Tiger Invitational track and field meet. Individually, Lykins won the 400 dash in 1:03.00. She also was part of two winning relays. Karli Rigby, Ellison Roark, Abby Allison and Lykins won the 800 relay in 1:54.08 and the 1600 relay in 4:32.51.

BELLEVUE — Upper Sandusky dropped both games of a challenging season-opening softball double header, 5-2 and 7-3, on Saturday at Bellevue. The Redmen (2-0) scored three runs in the first inning and twice in the fifth inning of the opener, while the Rams (0-2) scored both of their runs in the sixth inning.

ONTARIO — Ontario used a 10-run fourth inning to put away Wynford in a season-opening baseball game Saturday at Ontario. The Royals (0-1) took a 1-0 lead after one inning but gave up two runs in the second inning and then three more in the third inning before the 10-run outburst by the Warriors (1-0).

WILLARD — Wynford was outhit just 22-19 but dropped 4-0 and 11-6 decisions in its season-opening softball series Saturday at Willard. The Royals (0-2) were shut out despite seven hits in the first game and smashed 12 hits in the second game.

SHELBY — Upper Sandusky’s Alexis Fogle and Wynford’s Lyndie Williams will be part of the sixth annual North Central Ohio All-Star Showcase on Sunday at Shelby. Williams is slated to play for Underclass Team White, while Fogle is set to play for Senior Team White.

The Upper Sandusky girls basketball team recently held its awards banquet. Mohawk’s Zach Hayman and Paul Dunn earned the top honors on the All-Daily Chief-Union boys basketball team as player and coach of the year, respectively, repeating the honors they earned on the All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference teams.

SYCAMORE — Mohawk coach Paul Dunn previously was unavailable to comment on senior Zach Hayman’s All-Ohio Division IV third-team basketball selection Tuesday evening.

SYCAMORE — Mohawk guard Zach Hayman was named third-team All-Ohio in Division IV, while Wynford guard Josh Crall received All-Ohio special mention and Carey center Hayden Stone received All-Ohio honorable mention in Division III.

Upper Sandusky High School and SportsCare at Wyandot Memorial Hospital are partnering to offer athletic physicals May 29 for students entering seventh through 12th grades. WMH staff and local chiropractors will provide physical exams for a $15 donation to the USHS athletic department. The money raised will help purchase supplies for district teams.
