Wynford rallies from 9-0 deficit

BUCYRUS — Wynford senior Noah Smith probably won’t want to remember his start on the mound. But he won’t forget his final at-bat. With the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the eighth inning of an extra-innings contest against Buckeye Central on Wednesday, Smith singled to right field on a 1-2 pitch to score Avery Langenderfer from third and give the Royals a 12-11 come-from-behind victory over the Bucks at Wynford.

Mohawk slugs way to win in opener

SYCAMORE — Tess Weinandy and Mohawk softball picked up where they left off last year in a 17-6 five-inning rout of Ridgemont to begin their season Wednesday in Sycamore. Weinandy, who led the Northern 10 Athletic Conference last season with 10 home runs, smashed one in her first at-bat this year and finished with four RBIs for the Warriors, who ended last season with 11 straight wins before losing in the regional final.

BUCYRUS — Alli Scott and Paige Rex combined for five hits and five RBIs to lead Wynford to a 10-2 victory against Buckeye Central in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball opener Wednesday at Wynford. Scott had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs, while Rex singled, doubled and drove in three runs.

Carey comes back but falls in extras

CAREY — Carey erased a five-run deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning and added another run in the bottom of the seventh to send Wednesday’s Northern 10 Athletic conference softball game against Seneca East to extra innings, but the Tigers prevailed 9-7 in nine innings at Water Works Park.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Andrew Kuenzli had a pair of extra-base hits and two RBIs as Riverdale began Blanchard Valley Conference baseball play with a 14-4 victory against Cory-Rawson on Wednesday at Riverdale. Kuenzli also had two singles as he finished 4 for 4. He picked up his first career pitching win as well, giving up two hits in four innings.

CAREY — Tyler Turek struck out 13 batters and doubled twice among three hits as Seneca East ran away with a 17-3 victory against Carey in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference baseball game Wednesday at Memorial Park. Leading 9-3, the Tigers (2-0, 1-0 N10) put away the game with an eight-run seventh inning.

Falcons huge at plate again

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale has scored 53 runs in its last two games after blowing out Cory-Rawson 25-3 in a Blanchard Valley Conference softball game Wednesday at Riverdale. The victory followed a 28-13 victory against Mansfield Christian on Tuesday.

Upper routs Colonel Crawford

NORTH ROBINSON — Alivia Oney and Jenna Rodriguez had home runs as Upper Sandusky blew out Colonel Crawford 19-1 in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball game Wednesday. Oney also had a double and four RBIs, while Rodriguez added a single and three RBIs.

All 9 Rams have hit in win

NORTH ROBINSON — Every batter in the Upper Sandusky lineup had at least one hit as the Rams rallied past Colonel Crawford, 8-5, on Wednesday in North Robinson to remain undefeated on the baseball season. Colonel Crawford (1-1, 0-1 Northern 10 Athletic Conference) scored five times in the second inning to take a 5-2 lead, but Upper Sandusky (4-0, 1-0 N10) scored once in the third and twice in the fourth to tie the game and then took the lead with a run in the fifth inning. It added two more runs in the seventh.

Royals boys win track opener

BUCYRUS — Wynford’s boys track and field team was a winner in a season-opening tri-meet against River Valley and Cardington-Lincoln on Tuesday at home. The Royals scored 89 points to the Vikings’ 53, with the Pirates scoring 24 points. River Valley’s girls topped Wynford 97-63, with Cardington scoring 1 point.
