Mohawk’s Mullholand finishes 2nd in regional high jump to return to state

LANCASTER — Mohawk’s Taeylor Mullholand earned a return trip to the state meet after finishing as runner-up in the high jump in the Division III regional Wednesday at Fairfield Union. The sophomore cleared 5-4 to finish second to Delaware Christian junior Lyssi Snouffer, who topped the bar at 5-6. Mullholand finished third in the state last year as a freshman.

Donaugh, Howell get top honors

After leading a huge turnaround, Riverdale freshmen Alison Donaugh and Lainie Howell both were voted to the All-Blanchard Valley Conference softball first team released Tuesday. Donaugh pitched in every game for the Falcons, starting all but one of them, and went 12-7 with a 2.87 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 114 2/3 innings. She also excelled at the plate, hitting .589 with nine doubles, seven triples and 28 RBIs.

Kuenzli named to BVC 1st team

Riverdale’s Andrew Kuenzli earned All-Blanchard Valley Conference baseball honors released Tuesday. Kuenzli, a sophomore pitcher and infielder, hit .367 this season with 18 RBIs and scored 18 runs. On the mound, he was 4-1 with a 4.14 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings.

Whippets edge Rams 3-2 in tournament warmup

SHELBY — Upper Sandusky scored twice in the seventh inning but came up a run short in a 3-2 loss to Shelby in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Shelby. Ranked No. 5 in the state in Division III in the final state poll, the Rams (20-5) were warming up for their district semifinal game Thursday at Shelby against Oak Harbor.

Upper’s Emerick named coach of year; 2 Rams get 1st-team honors

Upper Sandusky’s Scott Emerick was named the coach of the year in Division III, and two of his players are part of the first-team All-District 9 baseball team announced Monday. The Rams’ Jason Holly and Brenyn Marquart were voted to the first team in District 9, along with Wynford’s Noah Smith. Mohawk’s Cole Widmer received first-team honors in Division IV.

Wynford Local School District turns the page on a new chapter

Breaking ground

Sunday with mostly clear skies, a burst of rain and a dose of wind, Wynford celebrated a new chapter for the district while also looking back and thanking those who came before. At the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Junior High and High School building, Wynford Students, alumni, administration, faculty and staff, community members and elected officials gathered to signify the start of what will be a year and a half long project, a $10.5 million project that Superintendent Fred Fox said would not be possible without Wynford’s strong support system.
