Montgomery repeats as All-DCU POY

All-Daily Chief-Union golf

Upper Sandusky’s Brett Montgomery was named the All-Daily Chief-Union golfer of the year for the second season in a row, while Carey’s Martin Baker was tabbed All-DC-U coach of the year. Montgomery, also the Northern 10 Athletic Conference’s player of the year for the second straight season, finished league play with an adjusted (strokes added for scores on non-par 36 courses) scoring average of 37.3 strokes per 36 holes, the best average in four seasons of the N10.

The Wyandot County Indians basketball team faced the Sycamore Community All-Stars in an exhibition basketball game last weekend at Mohawk. The Indians begin their regular season 6 p.m. Dec. 5 against Seneca County at the Mohawk Community Center.

7 from area named all-district 1st team

Mohawk had four of the area’s seven football all-district first-team selections as voted by Northwest Ohio media. The Warriors’ Zach Hayman, Chris Klopp, Nick Theis and Parker Brown were picked to the first team in Division VII, while Wynford’s Caleb Stone and Caleb Rausch and Carey’s Grant Frederick earned honors on the top team in Division VI.

Carey’s Kin signs to play at Findlay

CAREY — In many ways, Carey High School senior Sydney Kin is following in the footsteps of her older sister, Shelby Kin. On Monday, Kin signed a letter of intent to play basketball at the University of Findlay, the same school that Shelby Kin attends and plays volleyball and basketball.

RIVERDALE — Two members of the winningest senior class in the history of the Riverdale High School girls soccer program have received second-team All-Ohio honors. Seniors Reygan Frey and Gabi Rodriguez both received second-team All-Ohio honors.

Mohawk’s Nick Theis and Parker Brown earned top player honors, and Wynford’s Gabe Helbert was coach of the year on the All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference football team released Sunday. Theis, a senior defensive tackle, was named the defensive player of the year. He was among the league leaders in tackles for loss with 22 and sacks with 7.5. His 78 tackles were second on the team, and he forced and recovered a fumble.
