Bluffton’s kryptonite: Devils knocks off Pirates again

FINDLAY — After striking out 14 times in its loss to the Carey softball team on March 26, the Bluffton softball team prepared for their rematch with the Blue Devils in the Division IV district semifinal. Although they struck out 10 fewer times and scored more than in their previous matchup with the Blue Devils, the Pirates still couldn’t overcome an early deficit.

Rams hosting

The Upper Sandusky baseball team will host Wynford in a Division III sectional final at 5 p.m. Friday. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students.

Riverdale holds off Arcadia 3-2

ARCADIA — Arcadia got a seventh-inning home run and put two runners in scoring position but Alison Donaugh ended the game with a strikeout to preserve a 3-2 victory for Riverdale at Arcadia on Wednesday in Blanchard Valley Conference softball play.

Lucas’ Niswander, Grover shut out Carey 3-0

LUCAS — Staying disciplined against a pair of pitchers who were able to mix in a good curveball with their fastball proved too difficult a task for the Carey baseball team Tuesday. Logan Niswander and Jeb Grover combined on a four-hit shutout to lead Lucas past Carey 3-0 in a Division IV sectional semifinal game at Lucas. The No. 6 seed Cubs (8-10-1) advance to face No. 3 Plymouth in a sectional final game at 5 p.m. Thursday at Plymouth.

SHELBY — The feeling was all too familiar for the Monroeville softball team. The Eagles had fallen to the Mohawk softball team in the Division IV district semifinals at Shelby the last two seasons, with the Warriors winning both matchups by seven runs. On Tuesday, the Eagles trailed the Warriors once again, this time by five runs.

Free hearing screenings are today, May 14, 23 at WMH

Audiologist Courtney Thiel will provide free hearing screenings for individuals 60 and above 9-11:30 a.m. and 2-4:30 p.m. today, May 23 and 31 at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. Appointments are required for the free screenings. The first 20 callers to schedule will receive a complimentary Beca House Coffee Co. beverage.

HOJGA begins play soon

The Heart of Ohio Junior Golf Association is celebrating its 33rd season of serving area youth ages 9-18 within the seven Central Ohio counties of Marion, Crawford, Delaware, Hardin, Morrow, Union and Wyandot. The nonprofit, all-volunteer association was begun in 1987 to educate juniors through a golf camp, seminar, seven-tournament tour, awards and scholarships toward college education.
