At a time when many smaller churches are disappearing from the rural landscape, Emanuel United Church of Christ is bucking that trend. The rural Upper Sandusky church, located at 13989 TH 127, has grown recently not only in members, but also physically.

MARION — The Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle fatal crash that occurred at about 7 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Ohio 309 and CR 162 in Marion County’s Marion Township. According to a press release from the patrol, Lindsay D. Hempy, 24, of Marion, was traveling southbound on CR 162 in a 2015 Hyundai Elantra when she failed to yield at a stop sign, pulling into the path of a 2008 Dodge Ram driven by Robert L. Lawrence, 60, of LaRue.

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Jeff McClain, a Republican from Upper Sandusky, last week congratulated various Marion County fire and police departments for being named recipients of the Local Government Safety Capital grant funds.

Kevin B. Carter II, Columbus, charged by the patrol with aggravated possession of drugs, preliminary hearing held, continued to June 22. Albert W. Mizen, Chagrin Falls, charged by the Carey police with possession of a dangerous drug instrument, pleaded not guilty, trial set for June 16.

A dispute between neighbors occurred on West Wyandot Avenue the afternoon May 20 after a resident complained about a neighbor’s children being in his yard and causing noise at night. Both individuals were warned for disorderly conduct.

The Wyandot County commissioners are set to host the general public at the courthouse restoration open house from 2-4 p.m. June 12. The open house will feature many items for purchase, some provided entertainment and tours of the newly renovated courthouse.

KIRBY — The steeple atop Transfiguration of the Lord’s St. Mary Chapel in Kirby was replaced Friday morning, with a local contractor completing the job after masonry work previously done. Contractor Jason Yeater and his team replaced the steeple at the Catholic chapel that was damaged in the March 28 windstorm that knocked out power for days and closed several roads in Wyandot County.
