For the sixth consecutive year, area residents turned out Saturday to combat invasive species within Daughmer Savanna State Nature Preserve, an area experts believe is one of the best-kept secrets in the state of Ohio and one of the best natural prairies in all of North America.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Riverdale School District continues to have a strong financial standing. Treasurer Jodie Ribley reported at Monday’s school board meeting that even though money has been spent this year on upgrades to technology, a new bus and mulch for the playground, the budget continues to remain positive for the end of the fiscal year.

A Bucyrus man has been arrested in Wyandot County after a reserve sting operation conducted by the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office and the METRICH Enforcement Unit in the 11000 block of TH 44 on Tuesday. Michael D. Hickman, 33, was taken into custody at the scene by members of the Wyandot County Special Response Team, according to a press release from the WCSO.

MANSFIELD — Ohio State University at Mansfield will host the Ohio woodland stewards program from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 5, and the deadline to register is July 29. Participants will learn how to diagnose common and uncommon tree problems and work with OSU Extension specialists to learn what trees need immediate attention and what is simply cosmetic.

BUCYRUS — The Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District will host a pond clinic from 5:30-8 p.m. June 29 at Mike and Andrea Stump’s pond at 2805 Shearer Road, Bucyrus. The event will be held rain or shine, and participants are asked to bring lawn chairs.

KENTON — The Hardin County Men’s Garden Club, with the assistance of Hardin County master gardeners, is sponsoring “An Evening Garden Affair” from 6-9 p.m. June 27 at Friendship Gardens of Hardin County, located at 960 Kohler St., Kenton.

Thirteen project members and four advisers recently attended the seventh meeting of the River Roundup 4-H club at John Stewart United Methodist Church. Nora Estes and the Ward and Herring families provided refreshments.

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation is providing $200,000 for county Farm Bureau-led projects that help improve water quality in local communities. With additional matching funds from partnering organizations, the projects are expected to provide more than $460,000 in total resources.
