Organizers look back at 5 weeks of OMA

Individuals with memory conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and dementia are breaking free in a new program that pairs volunteers from the community with Fairhaven residents. A five-week pilot for Opening Minds through Art, an intergenerational, award-winning art program developed by Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University, has wrapped up with positive results for all involved, said the Rev. Becky King, chaplain at Fairhaven Community and one of two facilitators for the program locally.

‘Greenlight a Vet’ returns

A local veteran is asking area residents to “Greenlight a Vet” from Nov. 6-13 in a nationwide program to show support for veterans. Residents are asked to change their porch lights to green on Veterans Day for a week to show veterans they are valued and remembered in local communities.
