Employees of the Wyandot County Department of Job and Family Services recently celebrated Child Support Awareness Month, recognized in Ohio in August, by wearing green.

Upper Sandusky DeMolay will host an informational open house at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Upper Sandusky Masonic Center, 188 W. Johnson St. The meeting is open to the public and will include a brief presentation on the chapter and a time for questions.

Parents and families who have had children die are invited to a memorial balloon release from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 14 at Harrison Smith Park. Sponsored by The Compassionate Friends of Wyandot County, the annual balloon release will take place at the small red shelter house behind the pond at the park.

SYCAMORE — The Mohawk Community Library will host a family fun festival from 4:30-8 p.m. Friday. The summer reading finale will feature games, face painting, a bake sale, cornhole, free snow cones and more.

SYCAMORE — Mohawk School will host an orientation Aug. 18 for all seventh-grade and new eighth-grade students and their parents. The session will begin at 6 p.m. with a general meeting in the performing arts center.

Bill and Ruth Ann Price of Wharton will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday. The couple was married in 1966 at Forest United Methodist Church with the Revs. Robert Rector and Rodney Burk officiating.

Parents begin to teach their children at a young age about “stranger danger,” but discontinue lessons as they grow. Without the knowledge of strangers, teenagers are more susceptible to predators.

The Wyandot County Visitors Bureau recently announced the 2016 Lincoln Highway BuyWay Sales and the Upper Sandusky community garage sales will be the second weekend of August. Local advertising for sales will be handled through The Daily Chief-Union this year.

CRESTLINE — A boating safety and beginner canoeing class is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Bucyrus Neff Reservoir, located on Ohio 98. The program, sponsored by the Crawford Park District, will begin with a boating safety lesson, followed by a canoe float around the reservoir.

Supplies collected during a school supply drive for local students sponsored by Open Door Resource Center will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday. Parents and guardians of local youth are invited to pick up items at Open Door, located at 212 W. Wyandot Ave.
