KENTON — As Joe Torrillo drove into New York City on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, he knew this was going to be one of the biggest days of his life. It was, but not for any of the reasons he expected.

No one was injured in a structure fire that decimated the TH 58 residence of an Upper Sandusky couple Sunday. According to a press release from the Upper Sandusky Fire Department, firefighters responded to 12491 TH 58 at 7:14 a.m. for a fully involved structure fire and executed a “defensive attack.”

COLUMBUS — The 4R nutrient stewardship certification program has announced Crop Production Services Inc.’s service groups in Upper Sandusky and Ottawa have been added to its growing list of nutrient service providers to achieve certified status.

SYCAMORE — About 50 people gathered at Sycamore American Legion Park on Sunday to dedicate the newest ball diamond in memory of the late Joe Weininger, a longtime supporter of Sycamore youth baseball and softball.

FINDLAY — The American Red Cross North Central Ohio Chapter was recognized by the Ohio Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense office, at a luncheon Friday in Findlay for providing outstanding support to local military members and their families.

A former county commissioner and current rural Upper Sandusky farmer recently participated in the Flag City Honor Flight, a free trip for veterans to visit the memorials around Washington, D.C. It wasn’t Jim Leslie’s first time visiting the nation’s capital, but this time felt different.
