Henry David Thoreau said, “Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it.” One Upper Sandusky High School senior recently saw a great deal of success after spending years perfecting what she loves.

While most students who study broadcasting think of television when faced with a class project, Upper Sandusky High School senior Delaney McQuown used a lesser-known type of video art to recently go home a winner. McQuown was recognized April 20 as the third-place winner of a video competition sponsored by the Drug Free Action Alliance, Start Talking! campaign and Verizon.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — It was a hard sell for the engineers of Stantec Corporation to convince the more than 200 people who met at Riverdale High School on Tuesday night that their proposal for mitigating the flood threats to the city of Findlay was a good idea.

CAREY — Bridget Mullholand allowed just a hit and a walk in Carey’s 22-0 rout of Tiffin Calvert on Tuesday. The freshman struck out seven on the way to a win in her first varsity pitching action.

CAREY — Jordan Dasher delivered a two-run double in the sixth inning and Carey topped Tiffin Calvert, 4-1, in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday. The Blue Devils (5-6) won their third straight, managing to score one run off Kent State commit Peyton Deats in the third inning and then beating the Senecas after he was replaced.

ATTICA — Upper Sandusky’s girls were first and the boys were second in a quad-meet Tuesday at Seneca East. The Rams girls rolled with 152 points.

Volunteers gave 29,000 hours of service to Fairhaven Community last year. The Upper Sandusky nursing facility honored more than 75 volunteers for their service and dedication during a luncheon Monday.

CAREY — A discussion about moving Carey varsity softball games closer to the school did not result in a decision after a park board public hearing Sunday. Parks Director Brian Spencer said Mayor Jennifer Rathburn and council member Mellisa Cole will compare varsity softball and little league schedules to see if the move is possible.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — North Baltimore plated three runs in the first inning and held the lead until the end of a 5-3 Blanchard Valley Conference game against Riverdale on Monday. An RBI single put the Tigers up 1-0 before a wild pitch on strike three scored two additional runs.

CAREY — Carey scored eight times in the first two innings and ran away with an 11-3 victory Monday against Buckeye Central. Caitie Carter had a double among three hits and drove in two runs to lead Carey (5-3, 4-2 Northern 10 Athletic Conference).
