Marseilles Mayor Rick Arnold hands two BBQ chicken dinners to Jonathan Zucker of rural Harspter during the community barbecue Saturday afternoon. The village sold out of the 400 available dinners and $2,300 was raised for the village park maintenance fund.

Upper Sandusky (16-4) received a No. 4 seed and a bye into the sectional finals to face No. 5 Vermilion (13-4) at 5 p.m. May 12 in softball tournament draws held Sunday. No. 7 Norwalk (11-6) and No. 8 Ontario meet in one of the first-round games at 5 p.m. May 9, and the winner gets No. 2 Bellevue as part of the Edison district.

Sara Gier pounded away at the strike zone, and Maddison Stansbery pounded a high pitch over the center field fence. The senior pitcher-catcher combination worked well together in a 5-1 Upper Sandusky softball victory over Mohawk on Friday.

Upper police Chief Olds retires

Dozen of residents, city officials and members of the law enforcement community said goodbye to Upper Sandusky Police Chief David Olds during a reception Thursday afternoon at the city safety building. Today is Olds’ last day on the job. He is moving on to teach criminal justice at Vanguard Career Center in Fremont.

BVC champ Tigers top Blue Devils

CAREY — Blanchard Valley Conference champion North Baltimore scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to put away Carey, 8-3, in a non-conference softball game Thursday. The Tigers (16-5) scored twice in the third inning and once in the fourth for a 3-0 lead, but the Blue Devils (7-4) fought back with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make it a one-run game.
