Area residents enjoyed the many Christmas festivities that were held over the weekend.

Mason Vent scored 31 points on Saturday night and yet Upper Sandusky coach Jeff Winslow said it was not his best effort. It was, however, more than enough to lead the Rams to an 83-62 victory against Tiffin Columbian. The Upper Sandusky junior forward has 60 points in his first two games after scoring 29 in the season opener Friday night. “Not that he played bad, but it wasn’t one of his better games,” Winslow said.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — It had been a while — at least four years — since the Wynford girls basketball team defeated Riverdale. And even longer since the Royals turned the ball over eight times or less in a game. The last time was reportedly against Lucas in 2011.

The Wyandot County Solid Waste Management District policy committee held its quarterly meeting Friday morning at the recycling center. Wyandot County Recycling Center District Coordinator Kyle McColly opened the meeting by discussing the biggest project of 2018, which was the new baler.

The First Citizens National Bank in Upper Sandusky held its annual Fancy Bake Sale Friday morning. Employees and their families helped donate their best baked goods to the sale, which raised money for United Way of Wyandot County.

SYCAMORE — After an early eight-point lead prompted a New Riegel timeout, the Mohawk boys basketball team knew exactly what adjustment to make to put the game out of reach. After coming out in a half court man-to-man defense, Mohawk coach Paul Dunn switched to a full court press.

CAREY — The Carey boys basketball team opened its regular season with a non-conference game against area rival Riverdale and the game didn’t disappoint. Both teams traded big swings of momentum with Riverdale having an opportunity to tie the game in the final 10 seconds, but the Falcons fell just short as Carey won 55-52.

WILLARD — Upper Sandusky has plenty of options offensively, so when its defense buckles down this year like it did late in the second quarter, the Rams are hard to stop. They closed the first half on a big run and cruised to an 83-59 victory against Willard to open the season Friday night.

Traffic on East Wyandot Avenue will be altered in Upper Sandusky this December during the Upper Winter Fantasy of Lights. In coordination with the Upper Sandusky Police Department, traffic will switch to three lanes from the Wyandot County Courthouse to the entrance to Harrison Smith Park on East Wyandot Avenue when the Fantasy of Lights is active from 6-9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 6-10 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

WILLARD — Alexis Fogle’s 3-point shooting — in the first half, she hit three of the Upper Sandusky girls basketball team’s five 3-pointers — coupled with free throws by Fogle, Hannah McKinniss and a coast-to-coast layup by Alivia Oney kept the Rams close early.
