CAREY — Carey was able to bounce back up after Upper Sandusky’s initial hit but a big run to end the first half was the knockout punch Tuesday night. The Rams scored the game’s first eight points, and after the Blue Devils rallied for a brief lead, they dominated the rest of the way in a 70-43 victory at Carey that sets up a showdown with first place on the line against Mohawk on Saturday.

Wyandot County Special Olympics is taking its largest contingent ever to the Special Olympics National Unified Bowling Tournament from March 5-7 in Las Vegas. The Indians will send 12 athletes, six Special Olympics athletes and their partners, to compete in four-person teams and doubles competition at the South Point Hotel and Casino Bowling Center.

SYCAMORE — The First National Bank of Sycamore hosted one of the area’s most distinguished military veterans Tuesday afternoon for its annual shareholder meeting at the Sycamore Community Center. Mark Scheid, a Mohawk High School graduate, retired from the U.S. Army in 2006 at the rank of brigadier general.

As the senior night for Upper Sandusky girls basketball players Alivia Oney, Madison McLaughlin and Alexis Fogle, Feb. 12’s matchup between Upper Sandusky and Shelby was already going to be memorable. The Shelby girls basketball team won’t soon forget it either.

BUCYRUS — With a roster that includes five freshmen and no seniors among just 10 players altogether, Ridgedale has had a lot to learn this season. The Rockets showed they are catching on Tuesday night with a 48-43 come-from-behind victory against Wynford at W.R. Donnenwirth Gymnasium.

Union Elementary first-grade students gave a presentation on work they have been doing during Monday night’s Upper Sandusky Exempted Village School District meeting at Union School. The school’s first-grade classes got a grant to work with the creative theater group Catco from Columbus. They will put on a performance at 6 p.m. Feb. 28 in the Union auditorium.

A towing truck from TommyBoy Towing pulled into the south edge of the KFC/Marathon parking lot Monday afternoon in Upper Sandusky with the area behind its battery on fire.

BUCYRUS — Upper Sandusky edged Mohawk 49-46 in the championship game of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference eighth grade boys basketball tournament Saturday at Wynford. Keagan Iles led the Rams (16-1) with 18 points, followed by Levi Lamb with 11 points.

DEFIANCE — Upper Sandusky qualified 13 different swimmers in 17 events for districts, broke numerous school records and won the boys championship during sectional competition Saturday at Ayersville. Abbey Wenger, Kami Swartz, Katie Conley, Cali Andres, Trever Daughenbaugh, Will Barnes and Quin Voorhees all qualified to swim at Bowling Green on Friday in individual district events as well as relays, and Maya Collins, Addison Byrne, Brody Williams, Gage Frey and Jacob Newsome join them in relays.

SYCAMORE — Upper Sandusky did not have it on offense on Saturday afternoon, but it did enough on defense to hold off Mohawk 38-32 in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game at Mohawk. The Rams used a 7-0 run at the end of the third though the start of the fourth quarter to take control after the Warriors tied the score, and that was enough.
