Wyandot County EMS, the Upper Sandusky Police Department and the Upper Sandusky Fire Department were paged to a two-vehicle accident in front of a business on the 400 block of North Warpole Street Wednesday afternoon just after 2 p.m.

BUCYRUS — Wynford senior Noah Smith probably won’t want to remember his start on the mound. But he won’t forget his final at-bat. With the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the eighth inning of an extra-innings contest against Buckeye Central on Wednesday, Smith singled to right field on a 1-2 pitch to score Avery Langenderfer from third and give the Royals a 12-11 come-from-behind victory over the Bucks at Wynford.

SYCAMORE — Tess Weinandy and Mohawk softball picked up where they left off last year in a 17-6 five-inning rout of Ridgemont to begin their season Wednesday in Sycamore. Weinandy, who led the Northern 10 Athletic Conference last season with 10 home runs, smashed one in her first at-bat this year and finished with four RBIs for the Warriors, who ended last season with 11 straight wins before losing in the regional final.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale scored 23 times in the first two innings and won for the first time in two seasons, routing Mansfield Christian 28-13 in a nonconference softball game Tuesday at Riverdale. After giving up three runs in the top of the first inning, the Falcons (1-1) scored 13 times in the bottom of the first inning and 10 more times in the second inning.

CAREY — Reece Mullholand delivered a pair of two-run hits as Carey ran away with a 13-3 victory in five innings against Bluffton in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday. Mullholand drove in two runs with a single and two more with a double.

Upper Sandusky business owner Janice Woods was honored Monday evening by the Rotary Club of Upper Sandusky as the 2019 Service Above Self Award winner. The Service Above Self award is presented annually to an individual who lives or works in Wyandot County and who demonstrated outstanding humanitarian service to the local community, region or the world at large.

CAREY — The top of the first inning of the Riverdale baseball team’s game against Carey could have been a 1-2-3 inning. Instead, the first two Falcons batters reached base on infield errors, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

Upper Sandusky got another dominant pitching outing, this time from Jason Holly, in a 7-0 victory against Kenton in nonconference baseball action Monday. Holly (1-0) gave up just two hits and two walks with 13 strikeouts in the shutout.

Since 2011, students in Upper Sandusky district schools have been receiving free counseling services from Courtad-Holman Counseling LLC during the school day thanks to a grant from the Mental Health Board of Seneca, Sandusky and Wyandot counties.
