#PartyOn: Carey Fest opens Thursday

CAREY — Representatives from the Center for Science and Industry, several musical performers and a wide variety of food and games await those who will be attending Carey Fest Thursday through Saturday. The 2019 Carey Fest, themed “#PartyOn,” will take place from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, concluding with fireworks, and from 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

Bowsher brings history to life at The Link

Attendees of The Jim Bowsher Experience Sunday evening at The Link in Carey were invited to look at history the way Wapakoneta native Jim Bowsher does. Beyond his creation of the “Temple of Tolerance” in his Wapakoneta backyard, Bowsher is a writer, archaeologist, folklore collector, historian and lecturer. Sunday evening was his second trip to The Link, last speaking in 2016.

Third Upper Block Rally a success

The streets of downtown Upper Sandusky were filled with the sound of children’s’ laughter Friday afternoon for the third annual South Sandusky Block Rally. The rally, which is organized by downtown Upper Sandusky businesses, supports local non-profits. This year’s recipient was No One Fights Alone, a Sycamore-based non-profit which aids Wyandot County cancer patients with gift bags of helpful items.

Mohawk graduate lauded as hero

When 2007 Mohawk graduate and Tiffin police officer Justin Nowak was the first on scene at a house fire in the early morning of June 17, he didn’t hesitate to put his life on the line to save another. According to Nowak he was at the station around 2:30 a.m. when a call came out about a house fire at a residence in the 200 block of Wentz Street in Tiffin. The caller said she couldn’t get out of the house, but as she was communicating with dispatch, the connection was lost, because of fast growing fire.

It was a sea of red and green as the Wyandot County Council on Aging celebrated Christmas in July Thursday afternoon with a special Christmas-themed lunch in Upper Sandusky. Attendees enjoyed turkey cranberry sliders and frozen hot chocolate as well as unique shortbread Christmas cookies from Neumeisters, which were decorated by Mandy Baldwin and Amy Gardner to look like Santa buried in sand at the beach.
