Upper Sandusky shuts out Bucyrus 5-0 in regular season finale

BUCYRUS — The Upper Sandusky boys tennis team ended its regular season with a 5-0 victory at Bucyrus on Tuesday. The Rams’ Levi Malone was a 6-4, 6-2 winner in the No. 1 singles match against Kyle Hamm, and in the No. 2 match, it was Landon-Cotto Ramos getting a win for the Rams (11-4) by beating Karsen Kimmel 6-2, 6-0. Justin Blackburn cruised in the No. 3 match, 6-0, 6-2 over John Bell.

City council honors USHS swimmers

Upper Sandusky High School’s swimmers were honored at Monday’s Upper Sandusky City Council meeting. The girls medley relay team of Maya Collins, Kamryn Swartz, Abbey Wenger and Katie Conley advanced to the state competition during the winter sports season. Wenger also individually qualified for state in the 100 breaststroke. All four girls were given certificates at the council meeting.

CRESTLINE — Pitcher Hannah Messmer proved Monday she not only can help Wynford win games in the circle, she can also help it win in the batter’s box. Messmer had an RBI sacrifice bunt and an RBI single as the No. 9 seed Royals knocked off No. 7 Crestline 7-4 in a Division IV sectional semifinal softball game at Gates Brown Field at Crestline.

White Shutter wine-ds up for season

NEVADA — A new stage and several new brews highlighted the 2019 seasonal opening of the White Shutter Winery and Brewery on Saturday. Local band Grape Jam performed after the rain died down and food trucks from The Corner Inn and Whitetail Ridge also were available for attendees.

Mohawk scores 8 times in 6th inning to sweep Van Buren

SYCAMORE — Mohawk scored eight times in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past Van Buren 13-8 and take a sweep after winning the opener 5-3 in a baseball double header Saturday at Mohawk. The Warriors (14-3) scored to quickly erase a 1-0 deficit in the first game with three runs in the bottom of the first. In the second game, Mohawk trailed 8-5 before breaking out with the huge inning.

County museum open for season

New organ

The Wyandot County Museum officially opens for the 2019 season today. Director and curator of the museum Ronald Marvin Jr. explained that since the museum closed in mid-December, renovations have been underway at the museum, racing against the clock to finish the projects before its opening.
