Falcons’ Phelps, Reed, Rams’ Lewis reach semis

MARION — Riverdale’s Grady Phelps and Kydin Reed and Upper Sandusky’s Ethan Lewis all reached the semifinals of their weight classes on the opening day of the Sally George Invitational wrestling tournament Friday at Pleasant.

Phelps had a quick pin and then a 17-1 technical fall victory in his quarterfinal at 132 pounds. Reed won both of his matches at 190 pounds by pin, as did Lewis at 165 pounds.

The Falcons’ Jackson Armrose opened with a win at 138 pounds before losing in the quarterfinals. The Rams’ Abe Baldwin also won his first match but was defeated in the 120-pound quarterfinals. Teammates Braylon Shepherd (106 pounds) and Graham Wolf (113) had byes into the quarterfinals and lost their only matches.

Upper Sandusky’s Mason Shaffer began with a loss and got a pin in his 175-pound consolation round opener. Riverdale heavyweight Ethan Sanders lost his first match and then won a pair of consolation matches Friday to stay in contention on the second day.

Action resumes at 10 a.m. today at Pleasant.
