AKRON — In its first regional appearance since 2012, the Mohawk softball team faces an East Canton team that has advanced to the regional semifinals despite losing six seniors from last season’s team that finished as a district runner-up.

After taking the Northern 10 Athletic Conference’s top honors, Carey’s Trey Bame and Joey Roark repeated in District 9 as player and coach of the year in Division III. District 9 divides division based on schools within the district so some schools are not in the same division as their OHSAA designation.

LEXINGTON — One player from Upper Sandusky and five from Wynford are set to play for the North in the North Central Ohio All-Star Football game at 7 p.m. June 8 at Lexington. Upper Sandusky’s Brandon Derr is on the roster as a linebacker.

Carey’s Trey Bame and Joey Roark earned top honors on the All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference baseball team as player and coach of the year, respectively. Bame was joined on the All-N10 first-team by teammate Brayden Wentling, Upper Sandusky’s Arik Schneider and Jevon Dible, Wynford’s Wyatt Smith and Caleb Stone and Mohawk’s Parker Brown.

BUCYRUS — Not only did Walsh University offer Wynford High School senior Cole Heinlen the opportunity to continue his football career, but the chance to pursue his dream job as well. Heinlen recently signed his letter of intent to play football at Division II Walsh University in North Canton.

NEVADA – Maggie Wisda and Kip Kinn were the overall female and male winners, respectively, of White Shutter Winery’s 5K race held last Saturday with 52 participants either taking part in the 5K, a 1-mile fun run or a 0-K for people who wanted to contribute.

Upper Sandusky High School and SportsCare at Wyandot Memorial Hospital are partnering to offer athletic physicals for high school and middle school athletes (entering seventh through 12th grades) on May 30. WMH staff and local optometrists will provide physical exams for a $15 donation to the USHS Athletic Department.
