Seneca East’s Smith shuts down Wynford

BUCYRUS — Seneca East scored early and often on the way to a 5-1 victory over Wynford in a makeup Northern 10 Athletic Conference baseball game on Saturday at Wynford High School. The Tigers (13-2, 10-0 N10) scored two runs in the first inning and one in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Wildcats blank Falcons

DELPHOS — Brenen Auer pitched four shutout innings and drove in one run at the plate to help lead Delphos Jefferson to a 10-0 victory over Riverdale on Saturday. The Wildcats scored one run in the first inning, two in the second, three in the third and four in the fifth inning.

Blue Devils girls 6th at L-B

FINDLAY — Carey’s girls were sixth and the boys ninth in the Pat Wagner Memorial Invitational on Saturday at Liberty-Benton. Columbus Grove topped Liberty-Benton by a point, 121-120, for the girls title, while Carey scored 39.5 points.

Undefeated Carey gets 1 seed

Undefeated Carey is the top seed in the Division IV Marathon Diamonds baseball district draw held Sunday. The Blue Devils (16-0) will host a sectional final game against the winner of No. 9 Upper Scioto Valley and No. 10 Vanlue at 5 p.m. May 10.

Upper sports camps slated

Future Ram Baseball Camp for students in first through sixth grade is 12:30-4:30 p.m. May 19 at the Upper Sandusky baseball field. The cost is $25 per camper and includes instruction, a T-shirt, pizza and a drink.

Carey softball earns No. 1 seed

Carey earned the top seed and a bye into the sectional finals in high school softball district draws held Sunday. No. 7 Arcadia and No. 8 Hardin Northern will meet at 5 p.m. May 7 for the right to play at 5 p.m. May 10 at Carey (13-2) as part of the Division IV Findlay Marathon Diamonds district.

SYCAMORE — In sports and especially in softball or baseball, players and teams have to have a short memory because one result is far from a guarantee for the next. That sometimes is easier said than done, but Upper Sandusky showed just how different one game can be from the next with a 9-1 victory against Mohawk in Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball play Friday in Sycamore.

SYCAMORE — Upper Sandusky senior Jevon Dible didn’t just give the Rams an extra innings victory, he made himself the winning pitcher. With the game tied entering the top of the ninth inning, Parker Frombaugh laced a 3-2 pitch to third base that was bobbled by the Mohawk third baseman. He advanced to second when the ball got away from the Mohawk catcher on Ben Sheaffer’s strikeout.

Bluffton wins doubles matches, edges Upper

Bluffton won both doubles matches in three sets to take a 3-2 victory against Upper Sandusky in a boys tennis match Friday afternoon. The Pirates’ Drew Wilson and Christian Groman rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory against the Rams’ Sam Stuckman and Keegan Hossler in the No. 1 doubles match, while in the No. 2 match, Eden Nygaard and Grant Klingler defeated Micah Swinehart and Justin Blackburn, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

Rams girls take title at Royer Invitational

NORTH ROBINSON — Upper Sandusky’s girls won the championship while the boys were runner-up Friday in the Bob Royer Invitational at Colonel Crawford. The Rams girls won by a wide margin, 196-128, over the host Eagles, with Mohawk coming in third with 110.5 points.
