The Senedot Stripes began practices recently for all boys and girls from sixth through 12th grades interested in playing basketball. The program plans to put four separate teams on the floor in their first season — two varsity teams and two junior high Teams, one each for boys and girls.

BUCYRUS — During the 2017 volleyball season, Wynford coach Jamee Burke approached Macey Zinser and asked if she would be interested in playing volleyball collegiately.

SYCAMORE — A pair of Mohawk players were honored as All-Ohio volleyball players. Madi Chester was named to the Division IV second team, while Alexa Konkle was picked to the third team.

SYCAMORE — With Cole Rieman back in the mix, Leipsic had more athletes than Mohawk could handle. The team’s leading receiver came back from an injury that caused him to miss the last six games and had five catches for 96 yards, including four for 85 in the second half when the Vikings ran away with a 40-14 victory against the Warriors in a Division VII Region 26 quarterfinal Saturday night at Warrior Field.

SYCAMORE — Moments after the Mohawk football team suffered a 40-14 loss to Leipsic in the Division VII regional quarterfinal on Saturday at Mohawk High School, coach Brent Konkle immediately began reflecting on the Warriors’ accomplishments this year.

COLUMBUS GROVE — Carey had all the momentum early, but it came to a screeching halt with a pair of fumbles, and the Blue Devils couldn’t get it back in a 21-7 loss to Columbus Grove in a Division VI Region 22 regional quarterfinal game Friday night at Columbus Grove.

COLUMBUS GROVE — Last fall, Columbus Grove football coach Andy Schafer, donned in Carey blue, watched from the stands as his nephew, Carey running back and linebacker Willie Schafer, played in both of Carey’s playoff games.

SYCAMORE — Leipsic is not a typical No. 8 seed because Division VII’s Region 26 is not a typical region. The Blanchard Valley Conference runner-up Vikings visit state-ranked No. 1 and top-seeded Mohawk on Saturday night in a regional quarterfinal that is not expected to be a mismatch the 1-8 game often is.
