Despite loss, Blue Devils show potential they have for next year

On the attack

FINDLAY — There were few tears after Carey’s Division IV district semifinal loss to McComb on Monday night at Findlay. While it was the end of the season, it was not the end of the careers for any of the Blue Devils team that has no seniors, and they had shown just how good they might be next year by hanging tough with the No. 2 seed Panthers in the 25-17, 22-25, 25-17, 25-20 loss.

Warriors sweep Blue Jackets to advance to district title match

Soft hit

FOSTORIA — Even when the New Riegel volleyball team’s outside and middle hitters hit or tipped the ball to the precise spot on the floor they hoped to, the Mohawk Warriors picked it up and ran offense with it. And many of those times, a kill by Mohawk senior outside hitters Madi Chester or Kaylee Ward or by middle hitters Paityn Clouse or Emma Myers-Huffman quickly ensued.

Wynford, Shasteen, Lust move on

GALION — Upper Sandusky’s Madelyn Shasteen and Wynford’s boys team and girls runner Allison Lust qualified for regionals from the cross country district meet held Saturday at Amann’s Park near Galion. With the top four teams from each race advancing to the regional meet, Wynford finished fourth in the Division III district 1 race with 150 points, beating Norwalk St. Paul for the final regional spot by 23 points.

Mohawk overwhelms Wynford

Sack

BUCYRUS — Amidst all of the success that the 2018 Mohawk football team has achieved, some wondered if it could become more explosive on offense. Challenge accepted. After punting on their opening drive, the Warriors scored on their next five possessions, including a 62-yard run by quarterback Keith Jenkins and a 90-yard touchdown pass from Jenkins to Zach Hayman as the Warriors cruised to a 44-0 victory over Wynford on Friday at Wynford High School.

Bucyrus rolls with big 2nd quarter

Kick return

Bucyrus has been a team that has played opponents tough in the first half, and with the aid of five turnovers, the Redmen’s early performance Friday night was more than Upper Sandusky could handle in a 41-6 loss. The Rams lost a pair of fumbles and threw three interceptions, and the Redmen turned four of those turnovers into touchdowns while running out to a 35-0 halftime advantage.

ARCADIA — Justyn Scott ran for 340 yards and six touchdowns as Riverdale ran away with a 57-20 victory against Arcadia on Friday night at Arcadia. Scott scored on runs of 1, 13, 8, 22, 73 and 89 yards as the Falcons (5-4, 4-3 Blanchard Valley Conference) racked up 490 yards on 39 rushing attempts. Scott had 21 of those carries. The senior running back got the Falcons on the board first with a 1-yard touchdown run.
