XENIA — Upper Sandusky’s Brett Montgomery shot a second-round 77 to finished tied for 14th in the Ohio Junior Amateur on Wednesday at WGC Golf Club. Montgomery began the tournament with a 1-under par 70 that put him within two strokes of the lead but he was not able to stay in contention Wednesday.

XENIA — Upper Sandusky’s Brett Montgomery is tied for fifth place after one round in the Ohio Junior Championships at WGC Golf Course. Montgomery shot a first-round 1-under-par 70 and is two strokes back of leader Carsten Judge, of Columbus. Conner Stevens, Ethan Snyder and Trevor Binau are tied for second with 69s.

USHS grad hired as coach

Trent Howard

ATHENS, W.Va. — Trent Howard, a 2013 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, was named the men’s golf coach and an assistant men’s basketball coach at Concord University on Monday. Howard spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant for the University of Akron men’s basketball team. He was a team manager with the Zips for three seasons before that.

Upper Sandusky’s Jason Holly will represent the Green team in the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Senior All-Star Series on Thursday and Friday at Bill Davis Stadium at Ohio State University. The Green team faces the Navy Blue team at 1:20 p.m. Thursday and the Royal Blue team at 4 p.m. Thursday. It faces the Red team at 10:05 a.m. Friday.

Daughter of Upper grad earns honor

BELLEFONTAINE — Bellefontaine High School freshman Katie Pool earned All-Central Buckeye Conference second-team honors in the shot put. Pool is a daughter of Aaron and Emily Pool and a granddaughter of Ron and Debbie Pool, of Upper Sandusky. Aaron Pool is a 1989 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School.

NCO All-Star game Friday

LEXINGTON — The North Central Ohio All-Star Football Game is 7 p.m. June 14 at Lexington. Upper Sandusky’s Alex Wheeler and Wynford’s Blake Sparks and Caleb Rausch will play for the North against the South in the game.

Holly, Widmer share player of year honor

All DCU baseball 2019

A pair of pitchers were so dominant this year, a vote could not settle who was the top player on the All-Daily Chief-Union team. Upper Sandusky’s Jason Holly and Mohawk’s Cole Widmer shared All-DC-U player of the year honors with a tie vote. The Rams’ Scott Emerick was a unanimous selection as coach of the year.

Niederkohr named DC-U player of year a 3rd time

For the third straight year, Carey’s Hailey Niederkohr has been named the All-Daily Chief-Union softball player of the year. Niederkohr shared the honor last season with Mohawk’s Hannah Jordan but took the title outright this season, as she did as a freshman. Mohawk’s Aubrie Harper and Upper Sandusky’s Alivia Oney also received votes for the honor.
