MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Riverdale boys soccer team opened its season by blowing out Miller City 9-0 on Saturday night at Riverdale. The Falcons (1-0) took a 5-0 lead by halftime and added four more goals in the second half.

Unbeaten Tornadoes manage sweep

Undefeated Tiffin Columbian had to work to finish it off but managed a sweep of Upper Sandusky 25-14, 25-18, 31-29 in a nonconference volleyball match Saturday at Upper Sandusky. The Rams (1-3) got a balanced attack that included seven kills from Emily Hill and six each from Sydney Stuckman and Lily Gibson and pushed the Tornadoes (5-0) in the third set. Reagan Ward added four kills.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Hanna Breidenbach scored with 23:07 remaining to give the Riverdale girls soccer team a 2-1 victory against Continental on Saturday at Riverdale. Her goal, assisted by Callie Sudlow, answered a match-tying goal by the Pirates’ Alex Hoeffel three minutes before. Riverdale (2-1) held a 1-0 lead throughout much of the match after Lexi Miller scored with 21:22 to go in the first half.

Kenton jumps on Upper early in 7-1 win

KENTON — Kenton scored a pair of quick goals and coasted to a 7-1 victory against Upper Sandusky in a girls soccer match Saturday at Kenton. Ali Harpel scored only 2:34 into the match, and barely more than a minute later, Gabi Wetherill made it 2-0 with the first of her two goals. Hannah Holland scored the first of her three with 11:34 left in the first half to put the Wildcats (4-0) ahead 3-0.

Nearly swept, Royals rally to beat Whippets

SHELBY — Wynford was one point away from being swept five times but rallied past Shelby 21-25, 22-25, 30-28, 25-22, 15-11 on Saturday at Shelby. After dropping the first two sets, the Royals (3-2) faced match point starting at 24-23 and traded points with the Whippets (1-3) all the way to 28-27 when Wynford won three straight to finally take the set and stay alive.

Eagles sweep Blue Devils

CAREY — Kelsie Palmer had 14 kills to lead Monroeville to a sweep of Carey 25-14, 25-18, 25-18 in a nonconference volleyball match Saturday at Carey. McKenzie Row led the Blue Devils (1-2) with nine kills, 14 digs and three blocks, while Bailey Tanner tallied six kills. Sadie Arend added to Carey’s attack with four kills and two blocks, while Alaina Tiell had three kills and three blocks.

Wynford girls take 7th place in Tiger Classic

ATTICA — Led by Allison Lust’s 21st-place finish, Wynford’s girls took seventh place in the White Division in the Tiger Classic cross country invitational Saturday at Seneca East. The Royals finished with 193 points, while Mohawk was 13th of 19 teams with 369 points. Liberty Center won with 48 points.
