Clary finishes 3rd at state

Domination

COLUMBUS — Upper Sandusky senior Noah Clary’s high school wrestling career won’t soon be forgotten. After losing a match in the Division II 182-pound championship quarterfinals Friday, Clary reeled off four consecutive victories and ended his career with an exclamation point by pinning Hunter Johns of Chaminade Julienne at the 2:25 mark.

Carey’s May takes 5th place

Fifth-place finish

COLUMBUS — Much like his sectional match, all Carey sophomore Tanner May needed was a takedown to secure a victory. With his fifth-place match versus TJ Rhamy of Patrick Henry deadlocked at 1, May got a takedown and withstood a late escape by Rhamy for a 3-2 victory in the Division III 170-pound fifth-place match Saturday morning.

Johnston places 8th

COLUMBUS — It may not have been as high of a placement as he was hoping for, but for Upper Sandusky senior Connor Johnston, there was still a lot to be proud of from his weekend competing at the state wrestling tournament.

Warriors win district title at buzzer

Trophy time

FOSTORIA — Kaiden Hammer envisioned celebrating victory at the buzzer, but he did not think he would be the hero to make the winning shot. Hammer put back Zach Hayman’s miss with the ball going through the hoop as time expired to give Mohawk its first boys basketball district championship in school history with a 62-60 win against Arlington in Division IV action Friday night at Fostoria.

Clary wins twice more

Thwarted

COLUMBUS — Usually when Upper Sandsuky wrestler Noah Clary wins, it is by a substantial margin. Two matches after a loss to No. 2 ranked St. Vincent-St. Mary’s David Heath in the Division II championship quarterfinals of the 81st annual state wrestling tournament, Clary responded with back-to-back dominant victories Friday at the Jerome Schottenstein Center.

Johnston to battle for 7th

Holding on

COLUMBUS — Upper Sandusky senior Connor Johnston set out to place in the 81st annual state wrestling tournament. Although he likely would have preferred a higher place, he will leave the Jerome Schottenstein Center on Saturday having accomplished that goal as an All-Ohioan.

May drops semifinal match but assured of at least 6th

Getting position

COLUMBUS — Every time Carey’s Tanner May looked for an opening against Smithville’s Riley Smucker, he simply couldn’t find one. In a low-scoring Division III 170-pound championship semifinal match, Smucker used an escape and a takedown to defeat May 3-1 on Friday at the Jerome Schottenstein Center.

Price wraps up career with 2 losses at state tournament

End of the line

COLUMBUS — It’s been quite a wrestling career for Mohawk High School senior Daniel Price, but it has come to a close. A day after winning his first and only match of the day in the Division III championship preliminaries of the state tournament, Price lost a 17-1 technical fall to state placer Jacob Edwards of Troy Christian in the Division III 132-pound championship quarterfinals.

Mohawk’s Price controls match in 6-3 win

Takedown attempt

COLUMBUS — Mohawk senior Daniel Price is one step closer to his goal of getting to the podium in his final trip to the state wrestling tournament. Price jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in his first-round 132-pound match and despite a mini rally by his opponent, Coshocton’s Blake Barrick, Price held on for a 6-3 decision in the Division III preliminaries Thursday at the Jerome Schottenstein Center.
