MOUNT BLANCHARD — Looking to hold on to a comfortable 28-point lead over Hardin Northern going into halftime at home, Riverdale gave up a 33-yard passing touchdown with just four seconds to go in the half. The touchdown swayed momentum toward the Polar Bears, who scored 14 unanswered points in the second half, but the Riverdale defense buckled down and held on for the 28-20 non-conference victory on Friday.

MOUNT GILEAD — Penalties were the only thing holding back Upper Sandusky’s offense on Friday night, and even then, the Rams often were able to overcome their errors. Mason Vent threw for 321 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Rams to a 41-21 victory against Mount Gilead on Friday night at Mount Gilead.

SYCAMORE — Never mind the fact that a 58-yard touchdown run and a 26-yard run by Mohawk running back Jesse Leeth were negated by penalties. Leeth still achieved a new career high in rushing yards and helped the Mohawk football team get off to another 2-0 start.

GALION — Carey matched Galion in first downs Friday night in a non-conference football game at Heise Park in Galion, but the Blue Devils struggled to finish drives in Galion territory. The Tigers, however, used their athletic receivers to make big play after big play en route to a 35-6 victory over Carey.

BUCYRUS — The Tiffin Calvert Senecas owned the time of possession, rushing yards, passing yards and total yards. Yet, the Wynford Royals won the game. Calvert (1-1) ran 65 plays to the Royals’ 36 and outgained Wynford, 286-179.

SYCAMORE — Wynford coach Lynsey Trusty has many memories at Mohawk.

BUCYRUS — Wynford pushed its Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls golf winning streak to five matches and handed Colonel Crawford its first league loss of the year 202-212 on Thursday at The Golf Club of Bucyrus.

COLUMBUS GROVE — Haley Frey scored a pair of goals as Riverdale topped Columbus Grove 4-0 in a girls soccer match Thursday night at Columbus Grove.

BUCYRUS — Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys golf leader Seneca East got 38s from both Jake Forehand and Andrew Kalb in a 160-191 victory against Wynford on Thursday at The Golf Club of Bucyrus.

FOSTORIA — Ethan Tanner continued his hot streak by shooting a 36 to medal and lead Carey to another victory 170-207 against Ridgedale in Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys golf play Thursday at Lakeland Club.
