SYCAMORE — Defense often goes overlooked in softball, but two of Mohawk’s top players in the field were recognized as All-Ohioans in a release by the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association on Tuesday.

Cory Sayre, of Upper Sandusky, placed ninth of more than 120 players in the Billiards Congress of America Ohio State championships.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida women’s golf coach Emily (Bastel) Glaser, an Upper Sandusky native, was named the Women’s Golf Coaches Association East Region Coach of the Year. Glaser led the Gators to one of the best seasons in recent history, including seven tournament titles.

WESTERVILLE — Otterbein University’s Mark Walton, an Upper Sandusky High School graduate, earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference first-team baseball honors. Walton, who switched from catcher to third base midway through his senior season, finished with a .386 batting average that ranked sixth in the OAC. He finished second with 47 runs scored, fourth in on-base percentage at .437 and added 12 doubles.

Riverdale had 10 players selected as Academic-All Blanchard Valley Conference for the spring sports season. They were Lexi Bahn, Taylor Kuenzli, Joe Lauck, Aubreah Manns, Austin Miller, Tiffany Penwell and Jenna Thomas in track and field, and Taylor Farmer, Aricka Hill and Natalie Snook in softball. Only seniors are eligible for the honor.

SYCAMORE — Pheasants Forever is sponsoring a free youth trap shoot at 6 p.m. Thursday at Rogers Lake Conservation Club, 1748 Ohio 103, Sycamore. It is open to anyone 17 and younger, and shotguns, shells and targets will be provided to anyone who needs them.

The 10-and-younger Wyandot Boys won its first tournament of the season, the Carter Park Classic, in Bowling Green. On the first day of pool play, the Wyandot Boys beat Anthony Wayne White, 8-0.
