Wynford rallies to top Seneca East

BUCYRUS — After falling behind, 2-1, Wynford rallied to force and win a decisive fifth set in a 25-23, 22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-8 victory over Seneca East on Saturday. Tara Zinser led the Royals (7-13, 5-9 Northern 10 Athletic Conference) with 12 kills, and setter Jenna Coffman had 11 kills.

Shasteen leads Rams

MARION — Madelyn Shasteen was seventh to lead Upper Sandusky in the Marion Harding Invitational on Saturday. The Rams girls were 13th with 334 points.

Mohawk earns No. 2 seed, bye in volleyball district

Mohawk led area volleyball teams by earning a No. 2 seed in its district during draws held Sunday. The Warriors (16-4) earned a bye in the Division III Seneca East district and will host the winner of No. 5 Western Reserve (11-7) and No. 10 Edison (3-16) in a sectional final Oct. 22.

Riverdale girls seeded 2nd

Riverdale’s girls soccer team was seeded second in the Division III Findlay district and earned a bye into the sectional finals during draws Sunday. The Falcons (9-3-2) will play at home at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 22 against the winner of No. 8 Cory-Rawson (7-6-2) and No. 13 Galion (0-11), who play at 5:15 p.m. Oct. 17.

Carey volleyball sweeps Genoa

CAREY — Carey cruised past Genoa Area, 25-13, 25-8, 25-15, in a non-league volleyball match Saturday. Jessica Johnson led the Blue Devils (14-6) with 12 kills on 25-of-26 hitting, and Syndey Kin had 11 on 19 of 21.

Houck’s big game lifts Wynford

BUCYRUS — Zack Houck doubled his season yardage total and Wynford’s defense pitched a shutout in a 43-7 non-league victory over Lima Central Catholic on Friday. Houck saw a heavy workload as starting running back Robbie Miller was ejected for a head-to-head hit in the second quarter. He responded with 232 yards and three touchdowns (he came into the week with 231 yards and four rushing touchdowns).

Unbeaten Tigers top Warriors

SYCAMORE — The students named as royalty were never in any danger after the crowning ceremony of Mohawk’s homecoming game Friday night, but if they were, the situation would have been quickly handled, because the way Seneca East’s Brennan and Brock Martin were playing, the super Martin brothers could have stormed the castle to save the queen like they stormed down the center of the field.
