1st-place McComb overwhelms Riverdale, 56-7

McCOMB — Six different players scored offensive touchdowns for state No. 5 McComb in a 56-7 walloping of Riverdale in a Blanchard Valley Conference match Friday. Corey Swisher had two first-quarter touchdowns, including the game’s first score on a 43-yard run.

Carey routs BC, 46-0

NEW WASHINGTON — Carey snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 3-1 on the road with a 46-0 victory at Buckeye Central on Friday. The Blue Devils (3-4, 3-2 N10) forced four turnovers and held Buckeye Central to 26 yards rushing.

Gier unable to come back

SHELBY — Sara Gier was defeated, 0-6, 6-4, 6-2, in a Division II sectional quarterfinal match against Willard’s Jessica Beamer after play was resumed Friday. Gier, the No. 4 seed in the singles bracket, was trailing 5-2 in the third set Thursday when the match was suspended due to darkness.

Male’s hat trick leads Ontario past Upper

Andrew Male scored three goals to lead once-beaten Ontario to a 7-3 victory against Upper Sandusky in a boys soccer match Thursday. Kadin Hooks scored twice, and Brennan Blaising and Logan Osborn also had goals for the Warriors (12-1-1).

Surging Bucyrus tops Upper Sandusky

BUCYRUS — Bucyrus continued its recent strong play with a 25-23, 25-21, 25-17 victory against Upper Sandusky in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference volleyball match Thursday night. After starting 0-10, the Redmen (6-13, 4-9 N10) have won six of their last nine matches.

Mohawk routs Seneca East

ATTICA — Mohawk rolled to a 25-19, 25-12, 25-10 victory against Seneca East in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference volleyball match Thursday night. Addie Thiery led the Warriors (15-4, 11-3 N10) with 12 kills and three aces, while Destini Oler had eight kills and eight digs.
