CAREY — For the third game in a row, Carey got off to a slow start. This time, though, the Blue Devils gave themselves a chance to recover.

MORRAL — Riverdale’s Miles Frey was the most outstanding wrestler to lead the Falcons to a runner-up finish Saturday in the Ridgedale Invitational.

BELLEVUE — Jevyn Pratt won the 126-pound championship to lead Carey to a fourth-place finish Saturday in the Bellevue Invitational. Will Schafer (160 pounds), Tanner May (182) and Jonathon Racheter (220) all were runners-up for the Blue Devils, who finished with 202 points.

NEW WASHINGTON — Mohawk built an early lead and held on to defeat Buckeye Central, 46-44, for coach Paul Dunn’s first victory at his alma mater Saturday night in New Washington. The Warriors (1-1, 1-0 Northern 10 Athletic Conference) led 14-7 after one quarter and 28-17 at halftime but did not score in the third quarter, allowing the Bucks (0-3, 0-1 N10) to get within two, 28-26.

BUCYRUS — Jack Reed scored 15 points, and Wynford slowly pulled away from Bucyrus for its first win, 49-34, on Saturday night at W.R. Donnenwirth Gymnasium.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale won every quarter of an 80-44 non-league victory over Bucyrus on Saturday. The Falcons (4-2) shot 34-of-50 (68 percent) from the field.

The Carey girls basketball team’s 51-game league win streak is no more. Upper Sandusky made sure of it in the last 12 minutes of a 54-42 victory in a packed home gym Friday night. The Rams found momentum to the tune of a 23-6 run to end the game after they trailed 36-31 midway through the third quarter.

SYCAMORE — Mohawk put together its best half of basketball after the break Friday night, but it was not quite enough as Colonel Crawford held on for a 42-34 victory in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game.

MORRAL — Gretchen Harris scored 26 points, including the game-winning free throw with with 3.9 seconds left to lift Wynford to a come-from-behind 61-60 victory against Ridgedale in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game Friday night.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale made just 8 of 26 (30.8 percent) free throws, and Hopewell-Loudon was able to take a 60-51 victory to open Blanchard Valley Conference boys basketball play Friday night.
