Middle school state runners

Six members of the Upper Sandusky Middle School boys track and field team competed in the state championships May 21 at Dublin Scioto High School. Nate McMillan was fifth in the 200 hurdles in a school-record time of 27.28, and Jonah Donnell placed seventh in the long jump at 17-6.25.

Up against the best

Upper Sandusky football player Connor Johnston recently took part in the MSROHIO Underclassman Showcase at Massillon’s Paul Brown Tiger Stadium. A 2018 offensive line recruit, Johnston was one of more than 185 high school football players who were part of the showcase.

Wynford sprinters have high goals

BUCYRUS — Everything has come together for Wynford’s boys track and field sprinters at just the right time. The Royals are peaking as they head into the state meet as one of the favorites in all four of their events, including senior Cole Fortner’s two individual dashes.

In only 6 weeks in long jump, Willford earns spot at state

BUCYRUS — Expectations could not be lower for Margaret Willford in the Division III state track and field meet Friday, but that is because she already has exceeded them by a mile — or at least by a few feet. The Wynford senior will compete in the long jump only barely more than a month after giving the event a try for the first time.

Crestview ends Carey’s run

FINDLAY — Even with as much momentum as it was riding into the Division IV regional final, Carey probably was going to need an almost flawless effort to have a chance against perennial softball power Convoy Crestview. Instead, it was the Knights who were almost perfect for the second time in regional play, posting a 10-0 victory in five innings against the Blue Devils to reach the state final four Saturday at The Cube in Findlay.

Rams qualify 3 more for state

DAYTON — After a disappointing start to Saturday’s Division II regional track and field meet, Upper Sandusky seniors Emma Smith and Chase Barnett finished the meet exactly where they wanted to be — with their tickets to Columbus to compete in this week’s state track meet in hand.
