New Riegel sweeps Upper Sandusky

Brianna Gillig had 17 kills to lead New Riegel to a 25-16, 25-17, 25-9 victory against Upper Sandusky in non-conference volleyball Monday night. The Rams (4-8) combined for just 19 kills, led by Alaney Oney’s six on 25-of-28 hitting.

Upper edges Shelby, 3-2

SHELBY — Upper Sandusky won both doubles matches and the No. 1 singles match to take a 3-2 victory against Shelby in a girls tennis match Monday. The No. 2 doubles team of Jodi Smalley and Mara Smalley had the most hard-fought victory, winning 7-5, 6-4 against Kristen Long and Konnar Lamb.

Liberty-Benton wins in 4

FINDLAY — Riverdale won the first set before Liberty-Benton responded to take the next three for a 23-25, 25-12, 25-19, 25-16 victory in a Blanchard Valley Conference volleyball match Monday night. Carrol Pauley led the way for the Falcons (5-5, 3-2 BVC) with 14 kills on 38-of-39 hitting, while Jessica Johnston was 26-of-30 hitting with nine kills.

Wisconsin pair finishes 1st

Jim Hoenecke and Jeff Langholff, of Attinson, Wisconsin, were the winners of the A Division dartball tournament this weekend at the Wyandot County Fair. The pair defeated Dude and Jeff Hamisfar, Norwalk, 10-7, to finish an undefeated run through the bracket.

MLF: Cardinals top Cowboys

The Cardinals defeated the Cowboys, 28-8, in a Midget League Football game Sunday. Offensively for the Cardinals: Zaiden Fry, 7 carries for 95 yards, 1 TD; Gavin Frey, 6 carries for 68 yards, 1 TD, 2-point conversion, 1 completion for 12 yards; Brayden Chester, 6 carries for 40 yards, 1 TD, 1 catch for 12 yards; Evan Hill, 3 carries for 31 yards, 1 TD, 2-point conversion.

Cook leads Blue Devils to 3rd place

GALION — Trevor Cook was second to lead Carey to a third-place finish in the Division III race in the Galion Festival on Saturday at Amman’s Park. Cook was second in 16:15.5, getting topped by Colonel Crawford’s Chad Johnson, who ran away with first place in 15:33.0.

Stillberger 11th as Warriors take 3rd

KANSAS — Anna Stillberger finished 11th in 22:19.10 to lead Mohawk’s girls to a third-place finish in the Division III race Saturday in the Lakota Invitational. Hopewell-Loudon won with a 40-62 edge on Sandusky St. Mary, while the Warriors finished with 108 points to edge Margaretta by a point.

Warriors finish 2nd by 1 stroke at Nature Trails

KANSAS — Mohawk posted three of the top five scores but still was edged by one stroke, 332-333, for the championship Saturday in the Old Fort Invitational at Nature Trails Golf Course. Chet Margraf was medalist runner-up with a 78, finishing behind Woodmore’s Austin Berkel with a 76.

Rodriguez scores 1st 2 career goals in Upper’s 5-1 victory

SANDUSKY — Jenna Rodriguez scored her first two career goals, and Grace Miller finished with a goal and three assists as Upper Sandusky topped Sandusky, 5-1, in a non-conference girls soccer match Saturday afternoon. Rodriguez’s first goal put the Rams (6-1-1) on top as she headed in a Miller corner kick less than seven minutes into the match.
