Clary wins MVW; Upper takes 2nd

MARION — Noah Clary, Noah Frey and Connor Johnston all won individual championships as Upper Sandusky was the team runner-up this weekend in the Sally George Invitational at Pleasant. Northmor topped the Rams, 217-195.5, for the team title. West Jefferson was third with 173.5 points.

Carey’s May wins LCC title

LIMA — Freshman Tanner May became the first Carey wrestler ever to win a championship at the Thunderbird Invitational, taking the 182-pound title to lead the Blue Devils to a ninth-place finish Saturday at Lima Central Catholic.

Royals’ rally falls short

BUCYRUS — Wynford scored 32 points in the fourth quarter to get close, but Colonel Crawford held on for a 62-58 victory in a boys basketball game Saturday night. After the teams were tied at 7 after one quarter, the Eagles (11-4, 9-2 Northern 10 Athletic Conference) surged ahead, 28-16, at halftime, and held the lead at 12 points, 38-26, after three quarters.

TC holds off Riverdale

MANSFIELD — Abe Kurtz scored the winning basket with four seconds left in overtime and finished with 32 points to lead Mansfield Temple Christian to a 60-58 victory against Riverdale on Saturday night. The Falcons’ inbound pass following the basket went out of bounds, and the Crusaders ran out the the clock.

Mohawk goes 5-4 at SMCC

SANDUSKY — Cole Draper was 9-0 to help Mohawk finish ninth this weekend in the Division III Duals at Sandusky St. Mary. After going 2-2 on Friday, the Warriors beat Norwalk St. Paul, 33-28, and Western Reserve, 40-24. They were edged by Sherwood Fairview, 34-33, and lost to Genoa, 60-12, to finish fifth in their pool. Mohawk edged Ashland Crestview, 35-33, in the ninth-place match.

Balanced Bluffton gets win

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Four different Bluffton players hit at least two 3-pointers and scored at least 11 points as the Pirates defeated Riverdale, 56-47, in a non-league girls basketball game Saturday. Alivia Koenig hit four 3-pointers, while Averey Rumer made three, and both scored 13 points. Abbie Parkins and Kayla White had two 3-pointers each and both finished with 11 points. Bluffton was 11 of 27 on 3-pointers, while Riverdale was 3 of 20.

Kin leads Carey past New Riegel

CAREY — Sydney Kin scored 21 points and added 12 rebounds to lead Carey to a 47-36 victory against New Riegel in a non-conference girls basketball game Saturday. Kin went 8 of 10 from the field and 5 of 5 at the foul line and also contributed five blocked shots on defense. Seven other Carey players scored, led by Bry Curlis with six.

Frey finishes 4th at Ben Logan

BELLEFONTAINE — Wayne Frey finished fourth to lead Riverdale in the Raider Invitational this weekend at Benjamin Logan. The Falcons finished 17th with 19.5 points. Middle Creek won with 218 points, while Bellefontaine was second with 146 points.

Rams run past Tigers, 75-37

ATTICA — They were a little slow to start, but once they got up to speed, the Rams had no problem maintaining their pace. Upper Sandusky’s starters took it to Seneca East for three quarters before ceding to the reserves down the stretch of a 75-37 win on the road Friday night.
