CAREY — Spectators knew Friday night’s Upper Sandusky vs. Carey game was going to be strange just one play into the contest. Starting on his own 10 yard line, Upper Sandusky quarterback Mason Vent received a high snap and was chased out of the back of the end zone for a safety only 14 seconds into the rivalry match-up.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Both teams ran up their scores with big plays in a Blanchard Valley Conference opener Friday night, but a key touchdown before the half turned the momentum toward the Tigers.

HARROD — Zack Houck ran for 205 yards, and Wyatt Smith contributed to four touchdowns as Wynford rolled to a 33-0 victory Friday at Allen East. The Royals (2-1) took a 26-0 halftime lead and put the running clock into play with a score in the third quarter.

MARION — Mohawk was seventh in the Marion Harding Invitational at Marion Country Club on Friday. Pleasant topped Ridgedale for first place.

CAREY — With the exception of one set, the top two teams in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference played exactly the kind of match one would expect with the margins in each set decided by the minimum two points. In the end, it was Buckeye Central winning two of those three close sets and adding a decisive victory in the second set to hand Carey its first loss of the season, 25-23, 25-10, 29-31, 25-23, on Thursday night.

BUCYRUS — Upper Sandusky won its second straight match with a 25-18, 25-18, 23-25, 25-23 victory at Bucyrus on Thursday night. Lillie Orians had 13 kills on 18-of-22 hitting, and Anna Johnson finished with 12 kills on 32-of-35 hitting and had nine blocks for the Rams (3-5, 3-2 Northern 10 Athletic Conference).

Mansfield St. Peter’s swept the singles matches to take a 3-2 victory against Upper Sandusky in a girls tennis match Thursday. The Rams (3-5) won both doubles matches, but it was not enough.

BUCYRUS — Logen Sand shot an even-par 36 to earn medalist honors and lead Wynford to a 182-195 victory against Buckeye Central in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys golf match Thursday at The Golf Club of Bucyrus. Sand birdied Nos. 4 and 7 to make up for a pair of bogeys.

Liberty-Benton shut out Upper Sandusky in a boys North Central Ohio Soccer Association match, 7-0, on Thursday. Garret Bartel and Cameron Schroeder each had a brace.

Trevor Clifford medaled with a 41 to lead Upper Sandusky to a 50-stroke victory, 175-225, against Colonel Crawford on Thursday in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys golf match Thursday at Lincoln Hills Golf Club.
