Dryfuse’s shot lifts Jackets over Falcons

NEW RIEGEL — Ben Dryfuse’s 17-foot jumper with 2.9 seconds left lifted New Riegel to a 53-52 victory against Riverdale in a non-conference boys basketball game Saturday night. Coby Miller had given the Falcons a 51-50 lead by hitting a 12-footer in the lane with 11 seconds left.

Mohawk’s Brown, Lopez win championships

ASHLAND — Mohawk’s Parker Brown and Rico Lopez went undefeated to win championships Saturday in the Cougar Classic hosted by Ashland Crestview. Despite having only eight wrestlers taking part, the Warriors managed a fourth-place finish behind champion Waterlook, runner-up Troy Christian and third-place Crestview.

Carey’s May wins Bellevue title

BELLEVUE — Tanner May won the 182-pound championship as Carey finished sixth Saturday in the Bellevue Invitational wrestling tournament. The host Redmen won with 291 points, followed by Oak Harbor with 261 points and Maumee with 202.

Rams hold off Blue Devils, 51-50

CAREY — It may have just been Upper Sandusky’s opener in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference, but it was obvious from the atmosphere just how much this one game meant. Sadie Arend missed a baseline jumper in the closing seconds, and the Rams held off Carey, 51-50, in a packed gym Friday night at Carey.

Rockets top Royals in overtime

BUCYRUS — For the second straight year, the Wynford-Ridgedale girls basketball contest at Wynford High School was decided in overtime. Unlike last season, Ridgedale came out on top this time with a 45-43 final score.

Hopewell-Loudon 3-0 after edging Riverdale

BASCOM — Hopewell-Loudon’s boys remained undefeated after surviving a back-and-forth battle against visiting Riverdale Friday night. With the score tied at 31 heading into the fourth quarter, the Chieftains (3-0, 1-0 Blanchard Valley Conference) outscored Riverdale 17-12 down the stretch to win 49-44.

Upper girls top Ashland, 94-68

ASHLAND — The Upper Sandusky girls swimming teams defeated Ashland, 94-68, while the boys lost, 102-66, on Thursday at Ashland University. “Ashland’s boys team has a good group of state level competitors and it was good to give our swimmers experience swimming against that level of competition,” Upper Sandusky coach Justin Richardson said in an email.
