MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale edged Carey, 2-1, in a non-league softball game Monday to start the season with a win. The Falcons got on the board early by way of an inside-the-park home run by Janessa Taylor in the second inning.

SYCAMORE — Mohawk had a pair of double-digit innings while taking a 26-4 season-opening softball victory Monday against Wynford. The Warriors (1-0, 1-0 Northern 10 Athletic Conference) plated 11 runs in the first inning and 13 in the third, while scoring two runs in between.

Arik Schneider gave up just one run, but he was outdueled by Luke Nichols in a 1-0 Kenton baseball victory against Upper Sandusky on Monday. Nichols (1-0) allowed only four hits and one walk with four strikeouts, while Schneider (1-1) gave up seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Upper Sandusky tennis dropped its season opener against Kenton on Monday, 3-2, with the Wildcats sweeping the singles matches. Three of the five matches went to three sets.

BUCYRUS — Mohawk’s junior varsity baseball team rolled to a 14-1 victory at Wynford on Monday. Wyatt Cook threw a one-hitter, and Ethan Weir led the Warriors at the plate with three hits and three runs scored.

The Upper Sandusky softball team began its season on the losing end of a doubleheader against Bellevue on Saturday. The Rams lost game one, 11-1, and fell in game two, 8-5.

Upper Sandusky bounced back from a 14-1 loss against Bellevue to defeat Edison, 5-1, on Saturday. The Rams (1-1) scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull away from Edison.

SYCAMORE — Austin Harper threw a one-hitter to lead Mohawk to a season-opening 2-1 victory against Plymouth before a 5-2 Big Red win in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday at Mohawk. Harper (1-0) gave up his only hit and an unearned run in the second inning.

ATTICA — Destiny DeFeo was a double-winner to lead area track athletes in the season-opening Tiger Invitational on Saturday at Seneca East. DeFeo won the 1600 run in 5:53.8 and the 3200 run in 12:52 to lead the Blue Devils to a third-place finish with 89 points.

Upper Sandusky lost a pair of junior varsity baseball games to begin the season Saturday, falling 9-3 to Edison and 5-1 against Bellevue. The Rams committed seven errors against Edison; both teams recorded five hits.
