ATTICA — As long as there is a chance to win, Ed Phillips’ kids believe they can do it. After a go-ahead touchdown with 45 seconds left pushed Seneca East over the top in a 24-21 win against Mohawk on Friday, Phillips led his team to the sideline to sing the alma matter with the home crowd, and then to the student section behind the end zone to celebrate, all the while pumping his fist and shouting.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The McComb Panthers dominated the second quarter en route to a 42-19 win over the Riverdale Falcons on Friday night. McComb (6-1, 5-0 BVC) scored the only points of the first quarter when Clay Santos ran through the middle of the Falcons defense for a 41-yard touchdown with 6:02 left in the opening period.

CAREY — The Carey Blue Devils were nearly flawless Friday night in a 45-0 thumping of Buckeye Central. Carey (6-1, 4-1 Northern 10 Athletic Conference) committed just one 5-yard penalty, punted just once and didn’t turn the ball over in a game in which they nearly scored on every offensive possession.

BOWLING GREEN — Thursday’s Division III district round at Stone Ridge Golf Club was doubly sweet for Riverdale freshman Andrew Kuenzli. The first-year varsity golfer sank a rare hole-in-one on No. 8, and it helped him slide into an individual state qualification. Kuenzli shot 37 on the front nine and 41 on the back.

FINDLAY — Brett Montgomery was steady Thursday during the Division II district golf tournament at Red Hawk Run Golf Course near Findlay. Montgomery had five birdies and — maybe even more impressive — no double-bogeys on a course that caused trouble for practically every other player.

Bucyrus earned its second straight sweep by beating Upper Sandusky, 25-20, 25-7, 25-23, in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference volleyball match Thursday night.

LEXINGTON — Upper Sandusky dropped three three-set matches and went winless to close the season in Division II sectional play Thursday at Lakewood Racquet Club in Lexington.

NEW WASHINGTON — Buckeye Central clinched at least a share of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference title with a 25-20, 25-15, 23-25, 25-23 victory against Carey on Thursday night.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale scored twice in the last 12 minutes, but it was not enough as the Falcons dropped a 3-2 decision to undefeated Wapakoneta in a non-conference girls soccer match Thursday night.

Megan Hensel scored with 1:42 remaining, but it was not enough as Lima Bath held on for a 2-1 victory against Upper Sandusky in a non-conference girls soccer match Thursday.
