Jose L. Martinez, Houston, Texas, was arrested for driving without a valid license the afternoon of Aug. 10 after a traffic stop at North Eighth and Finley streets. He also was cited for no brake light. Kristy M. Patten, Upper Sandusky, was arrested the afternoon of Aug. 10 on a warrant on indictment for theft of a credit card following a meeting of the Wyandot County Grand Jury.

Upper family advocates for newborn tests for genetic neurological disorder

It has been a roller-coaster of a year for Daily Chief-Union sports editor Lonnie McMillan, his wife, Shauna, and their extended family. In the early months of 2016, after months of testing and asking questions, Shauna’s sister and brother-in-law, Lindsey and Robert Hayman, of Rutland in southeast Ohio, received some of the worst news parents can get — their only son, Evan, has a fatal neurological disorder, and the gene mutation runs in families.

MHS grad to speak at 9/11 salute

TIFFIN — Ret. Brig. Gen. Mark Scheid will be a featured speaker Sunday at Tiffin’s Patriot Day Salute sponsored by Tiffin University to honor first responders and military veterans. Scheid, a graduate of Mohawk High School, retired as a brigadier general and was in charge of war plans following the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.

The sheriff’s office, Wyandot East Fire Department and emergency medical services personnel responded to a structure fire at 406 N. Goodbread St., Nevada, the afternoon of Aug. 9. A chicken coop and a small storage shed were destroyed in the flames.

Security changes made at Upper library

Security changes have been made in response to an apparent theft of cash from the Upper Sandusky Community Library. During the August meeting, the board met in executive session to discuss security measures and adopted four new measures after returning to open session, according to minutes from the meeting.

USCL board seeks to move forward with select projects

The Upper Sandusky Community Library board will consider a handful of potential projects for the rest of this year and a list of goals for 2017 following a regular meeting Thursday afternoon. Library Director Kathleen Whitt presented to the board a variety of projects for potential funding, including some projects previously discussed and tabled by the trustees board.

EH440 to sing at UF

FINDLAY — Canadian a cappella group EH440 uses five voices and zero instruments to create one exciting new vocal sound. The group will grace the University of Findlay’s Alumni Memorial Union from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 16 as part of the school year’s Music Bach’s Concert Series, which is free and open to the public.
