Black Friday is right around the corner and Americans will be rushing to registers with credit cards in hand. To help show where people have been most responsible with their cards, financial technology company SmartAsset, New York, has released its second annual study on places with the least credit card debt.

Multiple local fire departments responded to a house fire in Upper Sandusky on Tuesday morning. The Upper Sandusky, Carey and Pitt Township fire departments, Wyandot County Emergency Medical Services and the American Red Cross responded to the fire at the residence of Rueban and Rosa Rall at 410 Spring St.

SYCAMORE — Just after announcing the retirements of two volunteer firefighters who served more than a century in total, Sycamore Fire Chief Bryan Clouse tenured his resignation to council Tuesday after 13 years leading the department.

CAREY — A grant of more than $1.3 million from the U.S. Economic Development Association for an electric substation project cannot be received because of lack of competition in bids, Carey administrator Roy Johnson said during a regular meeting of village council Monday.

The Upper Sandusky Exempted Village Schools Board of Education approved $7,000 in teacher mini grants during a regular meeting Monday. The grants, which are applied for by faculty members, are given from the district’s general fund each year.

Fifteen Upper Sandusky High School FFA members recently participated in the Wyandot County job interview contest at Mohawk School. The job interview career development event is one of the most beneficial events of which FFA students may be involved, USHS agricultural education teacher and FFA adviser Anna Creswell said.

Three area residents have been nominated in Local Administrative Area 3 in Wyandot County to serve as a Farm Service Agency committee member. LAA No. 3 consists of Antrim, Jackson, Marseilles, Mifflin and Pitt townships.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Riverdale FFA chapter recently hosted a leadership night for surrounding FFA chapters. Johnathon Cottingim, state sentinel, and Ryan Matthews, state vice president at large, visited to offer workshops for FFA members.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Four Riverdale FFA members recently made up a team to complete in the district food science contest. The team, consisting of Carrol Pauley, Cara Pauley, Kohlten Shane and Hunter Shane, placed second in the district to win an opportunity to compete in the state contest Dec. 3.

COLUMBUS — Beginning Jan. 1, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Guidance 209 will be effective, and pork producers of all sizes will face major changes regarding access to feed and water medications, according to a press release from the Ohio Pork Council.
