WeCare For Students begins Giving Tuesday benefit drive

Black Friday is known as the premier bargain shopping day, Small Business Saturday is dedicated to shoppers staying in their hometowns and buying from locally owned stores and Cyber Monday allows people to search for deals from the comfort of their own home, but one Upper Sandusky-based nonprofit organization hopes the fourth day of the post-Thanksgiving shopping season is not forgotten.

Detroit man hurt in holiday crash

A Detroit man was transported to Wyandot County Memorial Hospital following a single-vehicle crash on an exit ramp at the intersection of U.S. 23 and Ohio 103 in Carey on Thursday. Demetrius J. Brown, 46, sustained incapacitating injuries after failing to stop at a stop sign and jack-knifing his semitrailer, according to the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office crash report.

County, city both receive Issue I funding for ’17 projects

Three local projects recently were approved to receive state Issue I grant and loan funding in District 16 on July 1 for fiscal year 2017. Wyandot County applied for two grants and Upper Sandusky applied for one grant and one loan for a single project, according to a document provided separately by the Wyandot County Board of Commissioners and the city of Upper Sandusky.

Man faces 3rd felony for attack on sheriff

An inmate at the Wyandot County Jail was transported to Northwest Ohio Psychiatric Hospital on Tuesday following an incident at the Wyandot County Courthouse on Monday. Joshua B. Risner, New Riegel, was scheduled to attend a pretrial for a second-degree felony burglary charge against him Tuesday, according to the Wyandot County Common Pleas Court weekly calendar.

One-stop shop

One Stop Carry Out owners David and Lori McLaughlin are settling in as their first year as business owners winds down. David, a Carey native, and his wife acquired the one-stop shop on Carey’s South Vance Street in January and have developed relationships with their fair share of regular customers.
