COLUMBUS — Ohio Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor is reminding Ohioans on Medicare that the open enrollment deadline to determine their coverage for 2017 is today. Taylor, also director of the Ohio Department of Insurance, said people still undecided or just starting the evaluation process can turn to the department’s Ohio Senior Health Insurance Program for free help.

KIRBY — Kirby Village Council took the first step to adopt a dog noise nuisance ordinance at its meeting Tuesday evening. Council asked village clerk-treasurer Darl Snyder to write a rough draft for an ordinance that would address consistent dog barking that disrupts the comfortable livability of the village.

COLUMBUS — Paul Harrison of Fostoria has been elected to his fourth, three-year term on the board of trustees of Ohio Farm Bureau Federation. He represents the interests of Farm Bureau members from Hancock, Hardin, Seneca and Wyandot counties.

COLUMBUS — Ohio’s largest farm and food organization has established 2017 policy positions on agriculture’s role in protecting water quality, wildlife damage to crops and livestock and the state’s drug epidemic. During Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s 98th annual convention, 338 delegates representing all 88 Ohio counties voted on hundreds of positions that will set the organization’s direction for the coming year.

DAYTON — Registration now is open for the largest sustainable agriculture conference in Ohio, which is relocating in 2017 to a larger venue in order to offer an expanded program and more networking opportunities for farmers, backyard gardeners, consumers, businesses and others interested in sustainable and organic agriculture.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Riverdale FFA chapter recently traveled to Scioto Christmas Tree Farm to pick up trees to sell in the village of Forest’s Christmas celebration. The chapter will place the trees on the grass square across the street from The Crazy Lady.

COLUMBUS — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service is accepting applications for enrollment in the Conservation Stewardship Program, the nation’s largest conservation program. NRCS has made several updates to the program this year to help producers better evaluate their conservation options and the benefits to their operations and natural resources.

FINDLAY — Hunters harvested 2,168 wild turkeys during Ohio’s 2016 fall wild turkey season, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Ohio’s 2016 fall wild turkey hunting season was open in 56 counties Oct. 8 to Nov. 27.

REYNOLDSBURG — As winter approaches and more people look to firewood to help heat their homes, the Ohio Department of Agriculture is offering some basic tips to help when purchasing wood.
