Tree windbreak program available

BUCYRUS — The Northwest Ohio Windbreak Program is a great opportunity for landowners to establish tree windbreaks in the county to help reduce soil erosion, control drifting snow and improve wildlife habitat. The program is offered through the ODNR Division of Forestry and provides assistance with planning and planting windbreaks.

City approves Home for the Holidays 5K

The Upper Sandusky Safety Committee approved the Home for the Holidays 5K race during its regularly scheduled meeting Monday. Elaine Tschanen, representing Wyandot County 4-H camp counselors, brought maps of the planned route for the 5K race, which would begin near Johnson Street and end at the old EMS building downtown.

Carey approves 2 wastewater expenses

CAREY — Looking to maintain part of their existing wastewater treatment plant as well as put in new technology to upgrade the facility, Carey Village Council on Monday approved two of three additional expenses for the waste water treatment plant.

While the children are a heavy focus at the Upper Sandusky Community Library, some of the biggest and most successful programs the library offers are actually for adults. Cheryl Lyon recently took on the responsibility of the adult programs, although she has been heading the popular What’s Cookin’ cookbook discussion group for years.

The Wyandot County Council on Aging held its annual Holiday Bazaar Thursday and Friday, selling holiday decor, children’s items, baked goods, candy and more. The COA also is holding a quilt raffle, which will be drawn Dec. 1. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.

Muni court cases tried

Chad J. Howard, Carey, charged by the Carey police with obstruction of official business, pretrial held, continued to Dec. 17. Joseph C. Kozminske, Kalamazoo, Michigan, charged by the sheriff with possession of open beer in a motor vehicle, nollied.
