Eight members and five guests attended the Wyandot Tracers Ohio Genealogical Society and the Upper Sandusky Community Library joint meeting recently. Due to a misunderstanding of meeting dates, scheduled speaker Mark Cory was not able to attend.

An electrical cord strung across a walkway, a recently waxed kitchen floor, a throw rug on a wood floor and a bath tub without a non-skid mat — these all are household hazards that can lead to the most common cause of injury of adults older then 65 — a slip and fall.

CAREY — Nine members and two guests of the Village Gardeners’ Garden Club recently met at The Link in Carey. Speakers Nancy and Dean Kessler presented a program on sustainability as demonstrated in the Carey Community Gardens.

The Upper Sandusky High School Alumni Association’s annual banquet will be at 6 p.m. May 21 at Elks Lodge No. 83. A social hour will be from 6-7 p.m., with dinner from 7-8 p.m. and class recognition and entertainment beginning at 8 p.m.

BUCYRUS — The Humane Society Serving Crawford County is holding its 8th annual "Puttin on the Dog" charity auction on May 6 at Dillinger's Event Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. with a pizza/wing buffet, followed by the charity auction at 7:30 p.m.

Alexis Holtzberger, of Forest, who is enrolled in the honors program at Heidelberg University, will present her senior honors project next week. Holtzberger, who is majoring in criminal justice and psychology, will present her research on the topic The Effects of Education on Perceptions of the Criminal Justice System as the culmination of honors program requirements before graduation May 15.

The Crawford County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogy Society recently met with President Mary Fox opening the meeting by asking the roll call question, “How far back in time can you trace your family roots?” Most members answered the early 1800s, but several could trace back to the 14th and 15th centuries.

Tickets are on sale for the annual chicken barbecue sponsored by the Friends of the Upper Sandusky Community Library. The fundraiser is slated for 4-6 p.m. Saturday at the library.

TIFFIN — A regional training hosted by Court Appointed Special Advocates of Seneca, Sandusky and Wyandot Counties will focus on drug trends in local communities. The training will take place from 12-3 p.m. Tuesday at the Tiffin Seneca Public Library’s Frost Kalnow room.
