Humane Society: October 16, 2018

The following report was prepared and submitted by the Wyandot County Humane Society on Monday and is correct as of that date. Pets reported as missing since the last report that have not been found include a small calico kitten, a large gray and white spayed female cat, a spayed female black cat with white on one paw, a female brown Lab-husky with a red collar, two male and one female pit bull puppies, a tan and black neutered male Husky-pit bull mix, a female black cat with damaged ears, a male gray tiger cat and a long hair female black cat with a fluffy tail.

Wyandot County Public Health encourages flu shots

Influenza is a potentially serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death. Every flu season is different, and influenza infection can affect people differently, but every year millions of people get the flu, hundreds of thousands of people are hospitalized and thousands or tens of thousands of people die from flu-related causes.

VFW, Auxiliary sponsoring scholarship competitions

Once again it’s time for VFW and Auxiliary scholarships writing contests Patriot’s Pen for sixth through eighth grades and Voice of Democracy for ninth through 12th grades. Upper Sandusky, Carey, Mohawk and Riverdale students interested in writing an essay for consideration may get entry forms online and drop the entries off at either the Upper Sandusky or Carey posts.

Donate blood for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

FINDLAY — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month — the perfect time to give blood or platelets to support cancer patients and others. Anna Gwinnup, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in September 2017. Within weeks, it advanced to stage 2, forcing her to undergo a double mastectomy, chemotherapy and multiple surgeries, which required blood products.

Be sure to yield right of way

MARION — Motorists who don’t yield for vehicles with the right of way cause far too many crashes each year. Crashes caused by this violation, known as failure to yield, were a primary cause in nearly one out of every five crashes in Ohio.

Free vein screenings available

General Surgeon Peter Schuler, M.D., will provide free vein screenings from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 17 and 1-4 p.m. Oct. 31. The screenings will include a brief varicose vein risk factor questionnaire and consultation with Schuler.

Provider Resource Festival slated

The Wyandot County Board of Developmental Disabilities invites the public to come to its Provider Resource Fall Festival from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday at Harrison Smith Park in Upper Sandusky. This will be a great opportunity to visit and meet DODD providers as well as other resources such as Jobs and Family Services and Ohio Means Jobs.

Living Through Loss series continues tonight at BVH

FINDLAY — The 30th annual Living Through Loss educational series by Bridge Home Health and Hospice, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System, is currently underway. Presentations are held from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Marathon Auditorium at Blanchard Valley Hospital, located at 1900 S. Main St., Findlay.
