Men’s Breakfast to feature OSU player

BUCYRUS — A former Ohio State football player and nationally known speaker will speak at to Woodlawn United Methodist Church’s men’s breakfast at 7 a.m. June 12 at the Bucyrus Community Hospital cafeteria. Joel Penton, a graduate of the Ohio State University who played five years of football for the Buckeyes, and who now serves as executive director for “Stand for Truth,” will speak about the program, which takes the Gospel to America’s public schools and has reached 1,000 communities and 1,000,000 students in the last 10 Years.

OSU begins new Alzheimer’s clinical trial

COLUMBUS — A new clinical trial at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and two other sites is testing an innovative procedure that may provide hope in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. The non-invasive procedure uses low-intensity focused ultrasound to open the blood-brain barrier, a protective layer that shields the brain from infections or pathogens in the blood. However, this barrier also makes it nearly impossible to deliver therapeutics to the brain to treat neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

FINDLAY — Austin Stevens, of Bucyrus, recently performed in a spring band concert with the University of Findlay’s Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. “Through the Narrow Gate - The Road to Salvation” was the theme of the program. Featured works celebrated the human spirit and spirituality, with selections including “When Spirits Soar,” “Salvation,” “Into the Storm,” and “Allerseelen” (All Souls Day).

Sister of St Francis announce June events

TIFFIN — Sisters of St. Francis recently announced upcomig campus events. “Touch the Earth: Connecting with Creation” Mini Oasis Day retreat is 9 a.m. to noon June 1 at St. Francis Spirituality Center, 200 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, OH. The retreat is lead by Tiffin Franciscan Associate, Linda Haas. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for a continental breakfast. A noon meal is optional. The cost is $12 for the Oasis Day retreat only and $22 for the retreat plus the noon meal. Carey Link announces summer events

CAREY — The Link at 112 E. Findlay St., in Carey, recently announced upcoming events. The Link is open for regular hours Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Senior Chair Yoga is 10 a.m. June 4, 11, 18 and 25 with certified yoga instructor Judy Myers. There will be no yoga in July. Basic Yoga is 6:30 p.m. June 5, 12, 19 and 26. There will be no yoga in July.
